gaz1
ive been a chef for a zillion years and ive never heard of an electric oven door going bang. pressure could have built up in the pies and gone bang and taking the door and glass with them . crikey that must be one hell of a pie:D
peter richards
apart from them now being covered in glass they look intact , so no pie explosion , faulty glass i think . anyway off now to eat my curry , which i wanted in the first place . and no i didn't sabotage the oven

peter richards
results of numerous phone calls =0 12 month warranty run out 10 days ago , all she wanted to do was sell me a new glass . didn't want to know when i said the fucking thing exploded , but even then id have had the same answer . so atm I'm trying to chill before i call again as she didn't call me back which isn't any surprise. customer services these days just dont exist
DaveK
This happened to me a long time ago with a gas oven. It was after we'd had the glass out to clean it, and I can only guess we somehow fractured it or something when it was out. If I remember correctly (it was about 20 years ago!) my house insurance paid for it. It seems odd now that it wasn't within the excess, but I have vague memories that because it was glass it's handled differently (same as with cars). AndyT
Cripes. Glad you two weren't hurt bud. I'm sure members like Marbleapple could advise on the next steps if they don't play ball. An oven failing, ie stops working, is a totally different thing to dangerous failing. I'm guessing Howdens don't manufacture the item. Perhaps contact them direct. As said before, it could mean a recall.
peter richards
ill give a call tomorrow , just to see if i can get a new glass hopefully without having to pay for it , doubt it though
peter richards
i think it is a howdens make andy , the manager of the place i bought the kitchen from phoned and didnt get much of an answer either . so i think its buy a new glass time tbh . i know its only 10 days over but there is 0 tolerance apparently
AndyT
Sod paying for a glass mate. The manufacturer should bend over backwards to help. They'll not want a visit from HSE.
peter richards
thats what i thought , its not as if it just cracked , but when i pointed that out to her she just kept saying the same thing , so ill try again tomorrow
jim
I'm pretty sure that you've a case for it being defective and you've still got your consumer rights which take precedence over a warranty. This topic might interest you, and the link in it in post 2 (and links from that page) might prepare you better for your calm chat with the manager tomorrow bud. http://whatconsumer.co.uk/forum/consumer-law/7509-hotpoint-oven-broken-just-outside-1yr-warranty.html
