ozz
I've driven a race prepped one on the track - amazing car. Aston Martin looks without the price tag. I've seen the new shape (2007) for as little as 30k. I'd love one but thats far too rich for me, but a lot of car for the money.
JamieP
I had a xjr for a while same engine, only problem i had with it was a failed ecu, got one secondhand for not a lot of money, my brother has a xkr and its a nice car imo.
garethr
I've seen some horrendous pictures of rust on Pistonheads. 1999 car being re-shelled after a collision. Would be worth checking if later cars are better. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=85&t=715030&mid=35934&nmt=Tin%20worm%20on%20a%20XKR There were problems with the Nikasil liners in the early V8s (caused by high-sulphur petrol) so you need either evidence of a replacement engine or a test to confirm that there is no blow-by. mplavery
Hi mate yes they are quick, very nice cars and i was thinking of getting one my self a while back..There about 400bhp with about 5.2 sec 0-60 No real problems with the later V8 as long as its been looked after things to look out for IMO Timing chaings and tensioners, they have modded them a while back so have a look if there been done Drive belt squeaking, normally just the belt but again they have modded those as well and you cant get the old belt anymore..so if you have not had the new kit you will need belt , tenioners and idle pullys If you have the R Performnace kit..eg Brembos discs and pads Make sure there in good shape as the FRT pads retail at £230 + VAT and discs are about £400 + VAT And knocking noise...the V mounts go on them too If your getting a older 4.0 or 4.2 model look for the condition on the Detroit alloys which was a common wheel choice for the XKR.. The oyster colour were not available from Jaguar anymore so make sure there in good cond, although you can just replace the chrome trim around them.... OOO one more thing which is comming up more often now, RUST..look at the driver and passanger floor under the car, there failing M.O.T'S on them there now You would be shocked how well they handle round a track! But what you really want is the new 5ltr XKR when the valves open in the exhaust its louder then my BPU supra lol Hope that helps mate
Aero-M
My boss got one a few months ago now. So far so good, There are some rather large invoices in with the service history though, one for almost £4k for something engine related. He paid £9k for it 1999 with 97,000 on the clock. a98pmalcolm
my mate had one, rite juice drinker. He started getting a ever so slight deep knocking sound ( though it was the charger) then he swaped it, and on the way home with his new car the guy that tom gave the jag to was screwing coz it broke down and completely gone dead! TopgunTT
I expect they are juice drinkers being a V8. So are they just 1 single turbo?
garethr
No, just one big water-to-air intercooled Eaton supercharger http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=100328&d=1256427169 http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=100329&d=1256427169
