Pete
now theyre taking it to the next level by changing the bootrom of the 3gs to try and stop it from being pwned.....(as in making it much more difficult) - still not impossible. They've changed the bootrom a number of times previously. What's interesting is that the most recently discovered exploit was publicly explained and will be quickly plugged by Apple I have no doubt. With each revision it gets naturally harder and harder to find an exploit.
dangerous brain
Dunno what the fuss is all about. There are quite a few other phones on the market can do all that an Iphone can do and much more.

Pete
http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2009/10/14/apple-closed-jailbreak-exploit-due-app-piracy/ It's a theory. I still believe Apple would have been under considerable pressure from the mobile networks it partnered with to patch exploits as a priority all along. It's amazing people bother to pirate iPhone apps, they're so cheap it can't be worth the hassle can it? I guess people do though.
Terminator
Dunno what the fuss is all about. There are quite a few other phones on the market can do all that an Iphone can do and much more. Apple have done some amazing product placement deals, just watch a few movies and see how many Iphones you see. Watched "Eden Lake" last night, sure I spotted an Iphone in that. It has become the fashion accessory to have. Not got one personally but there is one in the house, it is a tough little bugger, lesser phones would not take such a beating. I really like my Ipod Touch, which is the Iphone without the phone. May consider the 3GS if the contract is right.

Todd
I was playing with an Android phone the other day - very impressed....and I'm a massive iPhone advocate. Android is very good, really liked my G1 but I've ended up going back to the iphone, it's flawed in some areas but it's all about what you need a phone for, for me the screen makes it, for web browsing and responsiveness it's the best out there at this moment in time
Thorin
I was playing with an Android phone the other day - very impressed....and I'm a massive iPhone advocate. I've had one for a few weeks now and I'm extremely impressed Sure there aren't as many apps available as there are for the iPhone, but it's catching up, and most apps are free too. Plus the fact that rooting and installing custom ROMs etc. is easy to do and being Linux it's very customisable. Still early days for Android as an OS but I can definitely see it becoming the dominant phone OS.

Geo
Only problem with Iphone texting is that you dont get alot of texts as a bundle package. I get unlimited just now, and im sure the iphone comes in like at Contract = 500 texts per month, then a bolt on if you want more. Crazy!! wkdtime
do they have a content library like itunes? Not at the moment, the Androis OS has much more scope and potential in pretty much every department bar the whole iTunes... Which is why I have both Android can do everything the iPhone does and so much more. Not bad for an OS thats just a year old, it has improved quite a bit since v1.0, HTC Hero was the first ever phone with Flash, again an Androis OS based phone. All the big phone companies bar Nokia are releasing Android based devices, it will pretty much dominate the Market.

wkdtime
Like? Live widgets Smart Search True Multitasking with 3rd party Apps Complete Screen Customisation Adobe Flash Runs on Linux - "The bete noir of proprietary operating system vendors." Open Source. iPhone is still the better polished phone overall, with a well established app store and not forgetting iTunes. Android still has alot of catching up to do in terms of Marketing and the quality of apps available in its the app store.

Todd
Live widgets - Got them Smart Search - As in searching the phone, got that. True Multitasking with 3rd party Apps - Do that with backgrounder Complete Screen Customisation - do that as well now Adobe Flash - Not as long as SJ keeps slagging Adobe off Runs on Linux - "The bete noir of proprietary operating system vendors." - Geeks OS Open Source. Double Geek - . Lets face it, at the end of the day, they are just phones, I really liked my G1, just convinced the wee brother to upgrade to a Hero and he loves it (pretty cool phone). I agree with you on the iphone being a more polished machine but the crappy gps in this day and age grinds me and the lack of a half decent camera really lets it down

Pete
The biggest issue with Android at the moment is there's no nice desktop application like iTunes and Google is depending on the community to build one. Open Source. Note: The Google apps aren't. This article is really interesting and explains Android quite nicely.
