Mobile phone help!

Recommended Posts

I've just obtained a T-Mobile G2 Touch which seems to be identical to the HTC Hero apparently, anyway it's a f***ing quantum leap from my previous phone (Motorola V3:rolleyes:) and I've stopped reading gadget/phone mags a while now so I'm "not with it".

It's got a 2gb flash card pre-installed which I want to upgrade to as much memory as possible but I'm a little confused as the spec says the phone has "microSD slot (SDHC compatible)" does this mean I can stick this card in then? If not can someone point me in the right direction? Ta.

Also anyone recommend an app I can/should download from Android?

This one will work,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-16GB-MicroSD-Memory-Card/dp/B001RPJEYA/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256231694&sr=1-20

The link to the card you have given is the normal sized sd card, not the micro bud

*doh!*

Ah right I see [note to self-search for MicroSD]

Would like to get one for less than £20 though, I'll have a search.

Thanks. :)

You should be able to, save the data off the old card to your comp, then when you link the phone to your comp, and then go on my computer, it should either come up as a mass storage device, or the sd card should show up, you can then paste the folder/files to it that way :)

Thought so, it's just like a USB memory stick then.

Ok these microSD cards, can I link the phone via USB to my pc and copy all the info on it to a folder and then put it back on the phone with a newer+more storage card in the future?

Yeah, the phone should give you an option to "Mount" the sd card when you connect it via USB, this will show the card in "My Computer" on your PC :)

Browse here for apps for your phone, easier than doing it on the phone but mind you have to install them from the phone

Looks like a good bit of kit that but I'm not sure the chin thing is for me. The interface looks hugely similar to my Win Mobile OS touch pro 2. All depends on what level of support the android system gets. If sat nav programs and the likes get converted en-masse then it will be a competent rival for the already hugely popular Win Mobile equipped equivalents.

Oh and as for apps, I've not had my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy) long but this is what I have so far...

aDyno - Not actually tried it in the car yet, but looks quite good.

AK Notepad - simple app for notes

Any Cut - Make short cuts to just about anything, I've got shortcuts to go straight to ringing or texting someone for example

Astrid - Task/To Do list

Astro - File and application manager (backup apps etc.)

ShopSavvy - Barcode scanner, price comparison thing

Bonsai Blast - bit like bust-a-move/puzzle bobble, match 3 same coloured bubbles etc.

Gmote - Remotely control media playback on your PC

Google Sky map - Quite impressive, uses GPS to get your location and you can hold it up to the sky and it points out constellations etc.

GPS Status 2 - Simple app with a compass and GPS info (speed, direction etc.)

Layar - "Augmented reality" app, again uses GPS to know your location and overlays location of pubs, restraurants, whatever, over the top of the camera display.

Wikitude - Similar to above

Handcent SMS - much better than the standard messaging app IMO

Robo Defense - Very addictive game

TouchPal - Better than the standard android virtual keypad, but I believe HTC bundle a similar one

TTS - Text to speech, amusing reading out text messages

TV-Guide - Self explanitory

Wifi Analyser - Useful to find other wireless networks in the area, see what channel they are on etc.

Also Facebook and Twidroid apps if you're into that kind of thing.

I can also recommend looking into rooting your phone and installing one of the custom ROM's. You get some cool things like Wifi Tether so that you can connect your laptop to the phone via wifi and browse using the phone's 3G connection.

If you find any other good apps let me know, still all new to Android myself, but I think it's the future :)

I've just bought an 8GB class 6 (fastest) microSD for my phone, this one to be exact http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001U2EQF2/ref=ox_ya_oh_product Less than £20

Those'll do until the 16Gb are knocking around on the cheap which is my phone's max limit apparently. :)

Yeah, the phone should give you an option to "Mount" the sd card when you connect it via USB, this will show the card in "My Computer" on your PC :)

I've learnt that stuff :smartass:
