blown fuse ?? what does it do??help

hi everyone i have no horn working,no central locking and no heating working just had a look at fuses and found that one is broken looks as if its been snaped in half and the bottom is still in holder i dont know what it is for? its the white one next to the red cap with in the fuse box help cheersDSC00101.jpg

As far as I can make out its the 120amp fuse for the entire charging system.

 

If this fuse is blown, your battery is not charging but that would be obvious fairly quickly. Dead car.

 

I'd hazard that this fuse is missing it's top cover but is still completing the charging circuit if your car is starting and driving OK.

 

You really need to test the charging fuse and circuit to be sure.

 

Check the remaining fuses to see if any are blown, both in the engine compartment and in the driver's footwell.

 

I'll see if I can isolate particular fuses to pay attention to.

Connecting the battery the wrong way around would also cause the 120A fuse to blow (plus a couple of other smaller fuses - and, if the ignition was on at the time, I believe also the igniter pack could possibly fail).

 

The 120A fuse is part number 90982-08271 and around £14 or so from the Toyota dealer.

Check the single wire on the alternator and make sure you have a good connection. It sounds like you'll need to replace the fuese no matter what. You won't be able to pull it out of the fuse block, you have to actually disassemble the block and unbolt the fuse to replace it. Chances are you shorted out the wire that comes off the alternator...........

yea it looks like the fuse has been broken by force , ive just bought the car on tuesday but i was only told about the central locking not working:(

I had the exact thing happen to me the other day. My car had been parked for about 2 months. I went to start it but it did not start. I again tried to start it then I heard a loud pop. I checked the fuse box and saw the EFI 2 fuse was blown, so I replaced it. When I started the car the car wanted to shut off, the windows would not work and the power steering felt stiff. The lights on the dash board were also turning on and off like a christmas tree. The next day I saw radiator coolant had leaked on the alternator and that my 120 fuse was blown. I have yet to check the alternator voltage but I'm about to relace the fuse. This might have hapened to you also? Its worth looking into.

Does anyone know if the radiator coolant could short out the fuses and even worse damage the alternator?

Yes, I think there is a "short" somewhere as I have replaced the 120Amp Fuse link and the 30amp - AMS fuse and the same thing happened. Both 30 amp and 120 amp fuse were blown immediately I connected the battery terminals. Please can anyone help or has anyone experianced something similar?

 

By the way, does anyone know what the 30amp AMS fuse does or what it is connected to?
