add heywood
I got a Power FC for the car around 6 months ago, all was running fine until maybe 2 weeks. Firstly, the engine knock light started to come on (facelift dash, the orange engine light on the right). It would only come on off load, when on throttle it would be fine, but then would illuminate maybe a second after I lifted off the throttle. Spoke to Ryan G about this and he said it would be the knock sensor either faulty or loose. Then last week it did this but the light didnt go out. So I now have the engine light described above illuminated all the time. Am I right in thinking this is the engine management warning light? Came to start the car this afternoon and it wouldn't start. It would almost fire but then cut out straight away. The fuel pump was on as I can hear it from the car. After a few mins of trying I popped the bonnet and could smell petrol, so thought it must be an ignition problem. I decided to have a look at the ecu. I made sure all connections were tight and that nothing had come loose. I couldn't see anything obvious so went to start the car again. This time it fired up but ran very lumpy. It would almost cut out if I touched the throttle. After abot 30 secs it started to clear and then seemed to run as normal. Ive tried to start it since and all seems fine now, althought he engine light is still on the dash. A couple of questions, 1. Where is the knock sensor located on the 2JZ? 2. What could be causing the engine light to be illuminated? There also seems to be one or 2 wires spliced into the loom before the ecu, is there a wiring diagram for the different coloured wires feeding into the ecu, so I can see what wires have been tapped into? David Reid
Did you torque the knock sensor up correctly as over torquing will result in a larger output signal? Edit to say very much doubt the knock sensor wil cause it not to run as knock control is normally not active at idle

Ryan.G
Hey Add There are 3 reasons why the engine check light will come on 1. Knock or Injector duty thresholds overcome. 2. Sensor fault 3. On intial key to symbol the ecu has power Now to me if its making the car run badly there is only one reason why the light will be coming on and it will be a dodgy sensor or loose connection. The later being my first guess. Have you got a Commandor hand unit as you can view the sensors readings on this and see which sensor is playing up as it will become highlighted. My guess is the map sensor wiring being loose. Very common as many people fit FCD's badly at the start of when modifying the car. Down at the ecu check the wiring on the PIM wire. Black/yellow wire. Pin 62B Also check the wiring at the map sensor when the car is running by moving it and see if the car dies or runs badly Ryan
Ryan.G
Where abouts is the sensor on the engine? Wont be knock sensor as it is only a warning indicator on the powerfc
add heywood
Ok cheers for your help guys. Ill have a good look at the wiring loom at the ecu. Now you have said that it does maybe sound as if its a loose wire, as I have no ecu cover, and when someone sits in the passenger seat and pushes their legs forward the car has spluttered a bit before now. I haven't got the commander for it but was looking about for one. Out of interest are the commanders interchangable, ie can I just buy any or does it have to be 2JZ specific? Only ones i know that work with the Supra powerfc is an Mr2,Gt4 or supra one. They are all different see
