tooquicktostop
Will be valve stem seals, nothing to worry about IMO, not worth the expense of fixing (about £1000 for a head off fix)
ellis
At this time of year it's possibly just condensation in the exhaust. If it happens all year round, and just at start-up, stem seals might be the culprit. White smoke might be cylinder head gasket. If its pretty much all the time, could be piston rings (pray its not!) Edited October 21, 2009 by ellis It's an NA!!! (see edit history)

Scooter
I've yet to hear of any NA's with valve stem seal issues, its certainly not as common as it is with TT's.......... I'd think put it down to condensation........do you have a stock exhaust?
Gaz6002
Got to be condensation if it's white smoke and the car isn't using water...
edge
Alot of white smoke threads start when the weather gets colder. If it does it when switched off and on again after a long run then possibly valve stem seals as mentioned. Try and give the exhaust a sniff when it does it to see if you can smell anything odd. It would be FAR cheaper to get a second hand engine than do any head work or anything thats going to cost more than a couple of hundred pounds (if you replace the engine yourself that is). Guest grantmyra
ok i will give it a sniff tomorrow if its the stem seals will it smell of petrol? and condensation then nothing really?
SimonT
If its stem seals it will smell of oil but the smoke should be blue not white! But as said already ive not heard of N/A's suffering with stem seals like the TT's do if at all but if it is be prepared to pay about about £1000 - £1500 to have it fixed as im having mine done next week

If you have cats in you may get a sweet smell. If oil is getting passed the seals then it will smell oily but not really of petrol. Dont worry to much though either way as you will pick an n/a engine up from £50 plus

Or pay a bit more and get a TT conversion, cost around £1700 for the parts. Somebody on here offers it.
