Chris Wilson
Just had a stressful 45 minutes to a call centre in India with 2 women who barely speak English, basically telling me a load of rubbish, which I only managed to sort because I redialled three times until I got someone who could understand what I was asking of them. Whilst tolerant of people from abroad with limited English in most walks of life I am not willing to waste my time selectively making calls to a credit card company in the hope of finding someone half fluent in my native tongue. So do an CC companies in the UK operate only UK based call centres?
Gaz6002
I believe First Direct do.
cheekymonkey
Not first direct. I often get Indians calling me with fraud checks when I use my FD credit card. Of course their main banking call centres are UK just not the credit card stuff I believe.
marbleapple
I believe First Direct do. Who are owned by HSBC who started the whole silly thing. I think you are right though

Matt H
Now you've mentioned it, I can't remember ever speaking to someone that wasn't English (at least sounding) when I've phoned up about my Credit Cards of the past. I've probably only phoned up to cancel them though, otherwise it's been automated.
Matt H
It was BC that I was having trouble with Is there no way of getting a UK call centre number from them? Barclay Card is the best one i've had (not had many though) I'm pretty sure Natwest operate UK call centres only, well at least for their Banking. Chris Wilson
I rarely use my credit card, but I am having to buy stuff from abroad a lot just now for this damned F3000 engine, and BC seem to think every transaction I try and make is fraudulent. That's good, to a point, but they seem to think everything I am using it for is dodgy and it's becoming a PITA.

jevansio
I can try & find out, I'm sure someone told me the bets way was to ask to speak about closing your account, then they put you straight through to the UK side

Nope - that's on the back of my card and I phoned it last week. I know there is an office somewhere in Manchester but I don't have the number to hand. PM me if you still need it. Paul
Ive always wanted to ask this question whilst on the phone to said Indian call centre but didnt want to be branded a racist Racist I changed my card over a couple of years back to my banks one, Lloyds TSB. They are OK, problem is they are in Scotland so nearly as difficult to understand At least they don't steal your details and sell them on
Chris Wilson
Call me what you like, but if the person discussing my money is hard to understand I have an issue with them
johnny g
Call me what you like, but if the person discussing my money is hard to understand I have an issue with them I'm with HSBC and I actually requested that I go to English-native speakers. I've no problem with them being Indian, African, whatever - so long as English is their first language and I can do my telephone banking without fear of them knobbing something up. Guigsy
IIRC if you request to speek to someone in england they have to transfer you. I think its in some code of conduct or something :S Barclaycard have a massive HQ in northampton. I used to work there. All the fraud stuff is located there. Aswell as lots of other bits. But they have other call centres in england too. But they also have some in india. But not as many as the uk i dont think. Ive never spoked to anyone not in england when ive had to phone HSBC
merckx
It was BC that I was having trouble with Is there no way of getting a UK call centre number from them? I've had £500 worth of fraudulent transactions on my Barclaycard recently. The first call I made was also to an Indian call centre but the forms I had to fill in came from this country and it also included a UK number. I called them yesterday and the lady on the phone sorted things for me very efficiently. The number was 01604 252 111.
