jevansio
Just wondering what your thoughts are on what engine/setup would be needed (and would fit as a transplant) into a MKIV. Could you achive it with a high revving V8 (obviously Ferrari do), is it the revs that do it, or the exhaust setup? The conversion wouldn't need to have anywhere near the power of say a big single supra, but a health 400+ would be a minimum, You've prolly heard the noise I'm after, if not this is it -HAMKHRJbrU
Gaz6002
A V10 on ITBs revving to 9000rpm The Lexus V8 from the LFA could probably be tuned to make a pretty special sound, but it would involve a LOT of work to make it happen. The higher rev limits required to make a car scream like that involve quite a bit of advanced engineering. What about the V12 in the Top Secret car? Equally, a lot is down to the exhaust as well... Speaking to someone like primary designs about it might be an idea...
michael
Probably cheaper to just buy a CD of race car noises and mount waterproof speakers on the outside.
martini
Probably cheaper to just buy a CD of race car noises and mount waterproof speakers on the outside. Close: http://www.vroombox.com/vroombox/ Just wait for the LF-A update. Make your car sound like any car you want. Let’s face it: you’re probably not going to get that souped up hot rod you always wanted. But at least your current car can sound like the muscle car of your dreams. VroomBox utilizes a powerful microprocessor to digitally recreate the sound of 15 different cars and fantasy vehicles, and play them through speakers under the car. It even includes special effects such as screeching tires and turbo blow-off valves that trigger automatically. And you can download more cars and effects from the web. Sounds and effects are controlled from a small faceplate with a backlit display that fits neatly on or under the dash. Once installed, the VroomBox monitors your engine’s RPM and load constantly, so when you step on the gas or shift gears, your new engine sound follows perfectly. Through speakers mounted under the car, the sound of the engine will be heard loud and clear by those around you. It all works automatically, from the time you start your car until you shut it off, with manual or automatic transmissions. And when you are ready to go back to driving a minivan, just switch it off, for that original “stock” sound. Personal highlight in bold. AndrewOW
I'll just be putting a playing card in the spokes. That should produce the sound I've been striving for!
Miguel
Find yourself a smashed up E60 M5/M6 and nab the S85 V10 out of it. Redlines at 8250rpm with 500 BHP. Should give you the sound you want. A lot of work just for a nice sound mind you.
johnny g
a lot of cost too. You're talking £8-10k for the lump alone. Then there's the wiring, gearbox/tranmission. Will it actually fit?!
Miguel
There was one for sale on Pistonheads 2 weeks ago for 5K with loom and box. Saying that, most things that produce that sort of power and noise is going to be an expensive and complicated affair. If it fits in a E30 BMW, I'm sure it will squeeze in the front of a Supra. Most of the guys that do the conversions simplify it by using a manual box and an aftermarket ECU. Still a hell of a lot of work just for a different sound. Thorin
There was this guy wanting to know how to make his NA sound like a Ferrari... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=78085 You could e-mail him and see if he found anything, otherwise the vroombox is probably the best bet.
