Possible Turbo overheat.

My turbo timer seems be running on a little longer than usual.

After a short, 5 mile drive without using hardly any boost it runs on for about 50 seconds.

I can't be 100% sure how long it used to run on for on similar trips but I think it used to only run on for about 10-20 seconds.

After driving pretty hard the timer goes up to about 4 minutes but quickly drops to under 3 minutes once I ease off.

Would times of 4 minutes for hard driving and 50 seconds for short trips sound a bit much or is this normal?

I'm worried that the oil in the turbo is heating up more than normal.

-Cheers...

P.S. It's a HKS Turbo Timer.

One of these.

My understanding is that it measures how much current the alternator generated which is in proportion to how hard the engine runs. You then set your preference on how long it should run depending on how much power it saw the car generate and thats how it runs longer the harder you drive the car.

It wont be measuring engine temp or oil temp at all. I have one in my car but only because the previous owner had it. I wont take it out but I also wont leave the car idling on the turbo timer and walk away as I dont trust it to leave the doors locked.

It's on a timer, set to whatever interval you choose.

Yes but there's an auto mode as well that works out it's own delay.

Cheers Branners, that's interesting that it works off the alternator output.

I wouldn't walk away from it either until it has stopped.

Thought it might actually have been your old Turbo Timer.

OGC ring any bells or am I mistaken?

Have you changed your battery recently, or diconnected it for any reason?

My old one did this when the battery was disconnected. When it came back on, it wasn't in auto mode, but was on some sort of default time delay.

Now we might be getting somewhere.

I hadn't driven it in a while and had to jump the battery right enough.

It's definitely in Auto mode (Ta).

I've tried cycling through the various modes and there is only one automatic mode.

It's not running down for a fixed period, it's starting off at 0 and building up to whatever value.

I've tried resetting S+T2 but to no avail.
