Thorin
You read The Register's review yet? http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/10/16/review_phone_palm_pre/ Were you aware you can also use the Pré to make cheese sandwiches? SJ4uFUQnSjQ Qocp-1HvFc8 No, will have a read. I read the EnGadget ones though. I have paid next to nothing for it actually, and I wonder if I have somehow tricked the system or something .. i dunno, but the o2 upgrader thing was very fussy about what tarriffs could be mixed with the handset, and I sort of added, then removed, then added again, and I ended up with a free Pre and 1200 minutes a month for £44/month. I'm on a £20/600min sim only tarriff at the moment, and I go slightly over the 600 mins (up to 800), and my bills come out at £75 quid. I reckon the 1200 minute tarriff is actually supposed to be a 500/600min tarriff when you select the Pre (like they do with the iPhone), but the system didn't say that and I printed out a PDF of what I was ordering .. carl0s
Nope, I just checked, and that's the correct tarrif. Surely that's pretty good? Unlimited Web & WiFi too.

Abz
Looks interesting and very iPhone in the way it works R33Lc8cOXRs Quotes from this video while his doing the demo "The internet is super fast...though while its loading you can do other things like check your list..." Phone does look fairly good but application speed and useability it is still off from the iPhone which it keeps getting compared to.

carl0s
*cough* multi tasking *cough* Exactly. Everytime I want to check my email, Last.FM has to close down and stop playing its wonderful music on my iPod Touch/iPhone. No question about it, that sucks. The Palm Pre is so frickin' right that I might even take the time to learn how to write code & learn the SDK to make it fulfill all my dreams. carl0s
The iphone is constantly mentioned because manufacturers know the Iphone is the best, therefore try, But fail to copy it. No, it's just because the iPhone was the first "revolutionary" device in the smartphone market. It totally turned everything else on its head. So, to say somethig is "the next iPhone", or "better than the iPhone", is just to say that it's a total revolution on everything else. Which is why "iPhone" gets mentioned so much, because it was so far ahead of everything else. It doesn't mean that something has to prove itself to the iPhone, it just means that someone's trying to say its impact is as big as the iPhone's was, which I think the Pre, or more specifically WebOS (slight hardware reservations here.. I'd like an IBM Thinkpad Pre please) is. It's like, nodbody would disagree that the Amiga 500+ was amazing, but, at the same time, would you really rather have an Amiga 500+ over a quad core q9900+whatever now? It's not even cool to emulate an Amiga now, 'cause things have moved on.
Ric
Why is it revolutionary? you could do all the iphone things on a old XDA what i had in 2003 or when ever, maybe full browsing, woo... Its the way it does it, how well it works, and how well it performs and looks which is all in the interface, not the item itself. this is what all the manufacturers are trying to copy, the look and feel of the iphone, the new samsung/lg interfaces might aswell just rip the coco touch theme straight off it as they are almost identical. Don't get me wrong, ive been tempted by many other handsets, but after trying them as much as Android and others are good, they just don't come close to the usability and feel good factor of using the Iphones OS because it just works.. Regarding multitasking etc, if you're that bothered jailbreak it and install Insomnia... But hopefully, you research things before you buy, and notice what it doesn't do, before you buy it..
