adnanshah247
so right, heres the situation, had a little spirited drive and the turbo went offline all of a sudden. cars driving exactly like an NA as no turbo at all. I checked all the plumbing and every house etc. is tight on. Called Homer who said get the cone off the front and see if its spinning. result was the turbo is not spinning at all. even manually i cant turn the blades, its like as if its jammed. I then took of the back side (down pipe) and all the blades in the back are still intact. nor the front or rear blades are damaged, none are missing or scratched at all. the turbos blades are completly seized...............wont go forward or back. any ideas folks or should i be ordering a new turbo? by the way, the turbo on the car is an SP61 (sound performance)

T2 MSW
ok so there should not be any play in the turbo shaft, so if there is loads of play and\or you cant spin the blades then the bearing is screwed.

T2 MSW
so should i put it in the bin and buy a new one or can i repair it? If you take the air filter off the car and fire her up does the turbo blades spin. If its the bearing thats gone you could get it rebuilt but for the cost I would imagine there would not be much in it for a new turbo. JustGav
Turbo dynamics in Christchurch should be able to refurb the turbo, but it isn't a cheap thing and not sure how reliable a rebuilt unit is.

Sorry to say dude looks like the turbo is dead.

pistonbroke
Adnan, sorry to see this mate. I'll try to be as constructive as possible for you. Full turbo refurbs from places like turbo dynamics are about £500 - £600. However, CRTurbos are considerably cheaper and I've heard good things about them. They could probably refurb it for £300 - £500. You need to weigh this up against just buying another T4 flange turbo and wacking it on. You can get turbos brand new for that money, though they won't be top spec brand ones. Your call buddy.
imi
I'd bin it and get a new one.
