Guest atheuma
Hey guys, bought a supra 2 months ago. First time I owned a supra. She is a n/a. She failed mot. The mot station said that the exhaust is TOO LOUD. So we lifted her up and the exhaust is still stock TILL the 2nd cat (or box or something). After the 2nd cat previous owner made a straight 3" pipe till the end. The 3" pipe he installed after the 2nd cat or whatever it is, is pretty much corroded and have about 5-8 small holes in it. The mot station said that he cant perform emission test because of holes. Any suggestions? Can i find the part of the exhaust from the 2nd cat till the end. The original part of the exhaust is still in good condition and not corroded (that is from manifold till the 2nd cat/box ) Thanks
keron
suppose you can either patch it up or get another cat back exhaust system...might be worth getting another cat back system tbh. especially if your keeping it..
Dave17
Get the 3inch section chopped off and replaced....or see if you can get it welded?
keron
something like this...it will never rust! and is cheap too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MKIV-Toyota-Supra-93-98-TRD-style-stainless-exhaust-3_W0QQitemZ170387615881QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item27abe4b089&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

AndyT
Put the second cat in or find a "nice mot man". NAs are notoriously loud but I don'ts see any DB meters anywhere.
Guest atheuma
Get the 3inch section chopped off and replaced....or see if you can get it welded? Thats what I was thinking but am afraid that she will fail emission test then :S As far as I am concerned she has not been suped up in any way except for a hks mushroom induction filter ... Anyways its not like you can supe up much an N/A without installing turbo. You think she will pass without the 3rd muffler/cat .. dont know what it is. Do you think she will still pass the noise test if i remove the corroded piece and install a 2.5 or 2" straight pipe?
Guest atheuma
she has got 2 cats/boxes out of the original 3. she is missing the last one right before muffler tip
Dave17
Well i would have thought it would quieten it down a bit not having holes in it yes. As has been mentioned it may be time to consider a new exhaust entirely. There are only 2 cats on a supe, and since it's an na they do like abit of backpressure rather than a totally freeflowing exhaust. If it was me i'd probably go for a new cat back exhaust, you can still get ones that are loud and should pass your tests, just won't be as defeaning as your current one must be. Guest atheuma
Thanks guys for your help. Hope she passes on emissions now..:S
Guigsy
she has got 2 cats/boxes out of the original 3. she is missing the last one right before muffler tip the last box isnt a cat. There is one right up close to the engine. andother in the middle of the car. the backbox is just a silencer.
Guest atheuma
yeah its missing that back box (silencer) but has got both cats in.... if i remove the straight pipe and weld another straight pipe with about 2.5" diameter. Do you think it will pass emission and noise test? Thanks

I'm not sure you can. All I've ever heard of is rules for racetracks.
Guest atheuma
yep ... but never got tested for emission...it only failed on noise levels due to holes I HOPE!!!
Dave17
With both cats in place it should pass without issue on emissions, your probably still going to need a silencer on the rear though..
Guest atheuma
dont know how they calculate noise levels though....there is no meter or figures...
