Night time Dimmer function on a gauge. Which wire?

Just getting ready to install some new gauges and all of them have the optional wire to dim the backlight when the lights are turned on.

Which wire do I use? It specifically says in the instructions not to use the dimmer switch as a varied dimmer could damage the gauge. Therefore i was thinking it would be best to splice into the switch for the sidelights?

Thanks

I used the one for the cig lighter :)

Do you know which one? One will be live & one will be earth. Is it the live or the earth that you used? Remember i am not using a mechanical gauge with a back light for when the lights go on (i had that before, just hooked up the gauges to the ciggy lighter).

On another note, does this look like the chap i need? The blue is remote positive, the black is earth, red is ignition and yellow is B+... leaving the orange?
