BOB B
Hi. I've just done a cam cover gasket and hose change following the thread for valve seal replacement, everything seemed to go ok, put everything back together, double checked everything, went to start it and all that happens is the spark plugs seem to be firing. It just feels as if there is no fuel getting through. I've disconected the battery and left it for a minute then reconnected with no change. All the lights on the dash look the same as normal, the onlything that may be different is once I've tried to start it my allarm light starts flashing. Need the car for work tomorrow. so any help would be greatly accepted. Cheers. Bob.
Ian C
Double check all connectors that you've been near. Make sure all earth straps are back on if you took any off. Have you deactivated the immobiliser?
BOB B
I have looked at everything connector wise, but haven't taken off and reconnected. Also I haven't knowingly deactivated the immobiliser but that's what it feels like. I'm going to go out there and do a willey nilley plug desconnect/connect see if that makes a difference. BOB B
Right done all that no change, is there anything I can do about moving the car in gear and therefor the engine? mine is an auto though. I have just put the battery on charge, but there seems to be no problem with it.

Friend of mine wondered why his car wouldn't start (he'd left it in "D"). I'm not too knowledgable about most technical things but, hoping someone on here can add their knowledge to this problem. Hope it gets sorted Bob.
merckx
May sound silly but the gear stick is in "P" right? Maybe, It might be worth taking it out of "park" then putting it back in. I don't know what sort of alarm/immobiliser you have fitted but does your engine normally turn over when the immobiliser/alarm is on, I know mine doesn't? I think I'm right in saying that cat 1 alarms when armed or immobilised shoudn't allow the engine to turn over. This may indicate that your alarm/immobiliser isn't the problem. Like Ian has said, checking all the electrical connections that you may have removed or possibly disturbed. Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes and then connecting it back up? Edited October 14, 2009 by merckx Forgot the ? Bob
Try starting it with the gearbox in N (iirc the autos will start in either P or N)
BOB B
Flat battery? Would you believe it, as a last ditch thing last night at 22.00 I put it on charge and this morning it started perfectly. Feel like a numpty now, it was only unused for 3 days and appart from it not turning over everything else worked fine. Thanks for all your help and suggestions I'm just glad I'm up and running, had such a bad nights sleep too. Cheers. Bob.
Fitz
What colour is your battery indicator? Should normally have a colour or symbol of some sort with a 'key' stating if the battery is 'OK', needs 'charging' or to be 'replaced'
Gambit
What kind of battery is it? sealed or non sealed. If it's non sealed check the water levels, if your out of water your alternator wont charge it.
BOB B
It was a non sealed type and the water was fine. It didn't have any sort of indicator on it, I have been out to Halfrauds and got a HCB 005 Calcium battery now, so should be OK for a while. Bob.
