need some serious advice

Right then first things first is there a member on here that knows their stuff with the honda D16A9 engine.

The reason for this as i have been asked to prep a car for a race by a good mate who has done something rather stupid. He has agreed to a race next summer and the winner gets the others car. ( lame I know). He has a CRX with the D16A9 engine and does not want to go turbo or supercharged, as he wants it to stay as stock looking as possible. The guy hes racing has a starlet GT running around 250BHP, Does anyone have any advice on building this car, the race is a best of 3 drag. Im thinking weight reduction is going play a key part in this. Perspex windows stripped interior and replacing boot floor with ally sheeting. Any help would be much appreciated to show this bloke up as he is the typical little person who thinks he is better than everyone and he has made it clear that he will send my mates car to the scrappy to be crushed just to spite Rhys. Also this guy has serious got on my nerves by saying that supras are the worst car made and he would take on anyone with one, what a fool

To be honest unless your friend throws lots of money at it he is not going to get good power from it staying N/A. My old starlet gt was only 140bhp and it could beat much more powerful cars in races.

Even if he done an engine transplant for something like a B18 from the teg or a B16B from the Ek9 he might struggle without boost or nos.

more like how stupid I swear he has rocks in his head, to even put a car up for a race yet alone racing this way. The crx was never meant to be raced and to top it all off he has only been driving for less than a year, and i have been in a car with him and 5 mins later told him if he didnt take me back to get my supra i was going to kill him. I dont scare easy in a car and he has made me, never wanting to get back in a car with him again.

if the guy with the starlet isnt spouting bullshit then i dont think there is much you can do. Starlets are prety rapid.

Thats what im thinking. Although i was looking around on the internet earlier, and found some nice looking throttle bodies, and Hks cams, if he wants to keep his car hes going to have to think about making this crx as light as possible and ploughing alot of cash into the car.

the stupid thing is that sat in his garage is an ep82 starlet gt, all that is wrong with it is the gearbox is dead but i have found a box for £75, yet he thinks that he can get the crx faster than the starlet. If he was to put the money towards this instead I could build him a quick car as its a tidy base car in the first place.

Strip the shit out of the car, get some light wheels with good drag rubber and then just use LOTS of NOS. He might have a chance.

A lot of this will come down to how good he is at launching the car. As he goes into 3rd hit the NOS, the change from 3rd to 4th will come quickly so be ready for it.

I would just let your friend loose his car then, from the sounds of it it will make the roads a safer place lol. How much do the crx's weigh? i know the starlets are 860kg and in standard form the power to weigh ratio takes them up to the same as a car with 180bhp.

You could get him to put his gt engine in the crx and then wind up the boost lol.
