Nemesis
Please don't get FIFA... ok for gamers but those who "know" football will wait for PES 2010.
GazzaGSi
^ was going to for Fifa 10 as I enjoyed '09 so much but the PES '10 demo looks and plays superb so Ive held off and may give them a rent to decide at the same time. Cant believe how much PES has come on since the last. All the players (in the demo) look life like. As afew have said and I'll add to the list, some top games for the PS3 (depending on your type of game) Killzone 2 Uncharted Drakes Fortune/Among thieves (Got among theives yesterday and its simply mind blowing. Dirt 2 NFS Shift Batman Arkham Asylum (best 'super hero' type game Ive played) COD series (MW2 out 9th November) Infamous Motorstorm 1 & Pacific rift Resistance fall of man & 2 Midnight club LA Metal Gear Solid There's also a decent seletion of PSN games which are paid for and downloaded via the PS store. The next coming year is looking strong too for cross platform games and PS exclusives. The PS3 did have a slow start to this 'gen' but the last year has been pretty decent and the following looks even better, again, depending on what you're into here's afew worth watching: Uncharted 2 Among Theives Video Review. Assassins Creed II Just Cause 2 Heavy Rain M.A.G Gran Turismo 5 Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time The Last Guardian And maybe this will wet your appetite for Modern Warfare 2 There's afew titles to keep you interested anyway Enjoy your new system, dont forget you can stream movies, music and photo's from your PC. Download the Vidzone App to stream 20,000+ music video's, download PS1 games from the PSN to play on the PS3 or PSP (if you have 1) and something I quite like, in the recent update it has BBC iPlayer - never have to miss Eastenders again now Cheers
Ace
If you've never tried online gaming before then prepare yourself for sleepless nights and crazy controller throwing antics as its consumes your very being LOL. okay, bit over the top maybe, but it is definitely addictive Playing games online is infinitely better than playing story mode. FPS's really come into the own online, as do racing games. Many a night have i suffered the wrath of the Mrs as she's left watching her Soaps as i blow two shits out of the enemy on COD I'll know I've been converted when me and my pals aren't going out on a Friday night because we're all staying in to play COD4 and smash one another... I used to have the xbox hd and ps3 and sold the xbox, for me the graphics are similar and up until recently the xbox had the better games but sony has finally got its act together and got all the right games back so now i think its a non brainer, there similar prices, similar games and the ps3 is a higher spec overall machine Pretty much what I've heard, plus Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy XIII are on the distant horizon, almost worth the wait and the expense of the PS3. All of which will look good on a Bravia TV. Please don't get FIFA... ok for gamers but those who "know" football will wait for PES 2010. I've already seen FIFA 10, and was left unimpressed. I'm not a great fan of football games as it is, and FIFA seemed quite pedestrian. Mind you, that was on a regular 19" TV.
cashpoint
The initial cost is higher for the PS3 but add the Blu-ray player and wi-fi as Std it's becomes cheaper. As the XBox is more for wi-fi ( or so I understand ) and to add Blu-ray you have to buy a totally separate unit. So PS3 make more sense. I've heard lots of good thing about uncharted may be worth a look myself.
Ace
Well, I received the PS3 today, along with the two games mentioned in the first post, and have spent practically all afternoon and evening playing it. And now for a bit of controversy - I already cannot stand COD4: Modern Warfare. The game is extremely unforgiving to newbies. I thought the control system was awkward, and what makes it worse is that it isn't fully customisable (from memory, only four presets for the analog sticks and five different combinations for the rest of the buttons). As for the online mode, it is beyond a joke how many times I was the first one killed by a lucky grenade thrown into the sky from one side of the arena to another. Too many fortunate shots, and too much time spent "spectating" a team member because you were the first one to die. Overall, not impressed. MGS4 looks very promising though... GazzaGSi
Theres plenty of alternatives to COD mate. I know what you mean about the spawn kills too. Happens to pretty much every one, just gotta try and move asap and hope you're not running in to a 'nade. Bare in mind COD has been out a while now so no disrespect but people on there will own you. I got owned for weeks when I went back to COD4 from World at War and I was 10th prestige and level 65 on that. Its just I new none of the maps, sniping points etc etc but you'll pick it up the more you play. Ive stuck some pretty decent alternatives up above if you're interested Uncharted 2 is out now and I know when I get round to playing that on line I'll get spanked for the first week or 2 as its a petty steep learning curve as with most online games. However, I luv the control layout for COD. Whenever I get another FPS I always go to the presets to try and find the best alternative so the controls are the same as COD. Lol thats COD4 for you mate, hence why i dont play it anymore. Ppl spend their lives on that game and know every single route from the spawn point and every BS sniper point there is. Try World @ War if you want a similar alternative, still has the same COD feel but you last more than 5 seconds in that game as you cant immediately throw a grenade into the spawn point on most maps. Also, try a different mode other than Search And Destroy, that way you'll respawn more readily and get a feel for the game quicker. S&D is mainly for advanced players. You really need to finish the game first to get used to all the controls and upto speed, it does take time, i played the game and loved it but played it online a few times and hated it, didnt think it was a patch on warhawk But got pursuaded to go online with a few mates and after a while i got used it and now i still love the game ps its possibly me picking on the newbies

SupraDan24
or just wait til Modern Warfare comes out next month, buy that and you'll more or less be on a level playing field with everyone else once you get used to the controls as no-one will know the maps. I've got mine pre-ordered, hopefully all this COD5 ive been playin will have me in good stead.
