caseys
I thought Nintendo were getting bad with Virtual cooking games and Virtual pet games... Now? Virtual cycling! http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/wii-gets-full-size-exercise-bike http://www.eurogamer.net/gallery.php?game_id=12454 What next? Virtual rowing. Virtual toilet (inc bog roll). Virtual bath. Virtual life (oh the sims... hang on..) I really don't get the trend at the moment of bringing out computer games/gadgets for entertainment that you can easily do in real life. You can buy a bike, you can cook (hopefully). I buy computer games for things I can't easily do, like shoot aliens in the head, drive a 1970s single-seater car around Le Mans or Suzuka. Some of the games being brought out nowadays really make me fear that social interaction and getting out and experiencing things for real will just being heresay to the latest gaming generation. Would anyone really buy a virtual bike? I could possibly understand people requiring physio, but any able bodied people? Anyone else claiming that it's for fitness is quite frankly deluding themselves, they're still sat indoors in front of a TV. It's not going to be a huge lifestyle shift towards a fitter living. Argh! I need coffee. Preferably via an IV.
martini
What next? Virtual rowing... Quite possibly! When all of this "sport on computer game" stuff came about, I was also very cynical. Whilst I still love my retro stuff, times have moved on. I think part of the appeal is that some people don't like to go to a gym to work out for various reasons, and so this offers them the opportunity to have a machine that a) helps them get fit and b) they can let the children play with instead of letting them sit in front of a PC for hours eating sweets whilst playing WoW. Now, I gamed a lot when I was a child, but I also loved sports. I played more sports than I did games (and I played a lot of games). Lots of children don't play sports for various reasons (maybe they won't like the gym when they are older either) and as such, games that have any physical exercise in them are going to be of benefit. I agree, there is a lot of hype, and a large media push for the Wii and Wii fit and all that malarky, but I can't see how it's going take over the likes of FIFA and Need For Speed and Call of Duty, so it happily lives along side them. Furthermore, Nintendo's stuff is actually rather well made; so I imagine this exercise bike is going to be rather good. In Japan, a lot of people work 7-10 and gyms are not open much between those hours, so this is where the market will be largest. Let's see if it's released here

AndrewOW
Virtual sex will be the next one, but I'd imagine a lot of people are doing that already! I just loved Wii Sports, but all these others are just taking the piss!
