Chris Wilson
What with members here losing their Mums and Dads, singers dying amid depressingly vulturine press coverage, and an ongoing recession I thought I'd get the old camera out and take a few cheerful pics of some of our dogs and animals enjoying a simply gorgeous day here in Shropshire. Maybe a frost is coming tonigjht, but right now it's a beautiful day and the animals are basking in the sunshine. Hope they cheer you all up a bit, life can be a bitch at times. http://www.gatesgarth.com/animals_october_2009/animals.html

Chris Wilson
They have grown a bit, here's a pic of the two calves with the black cow, taken in June 2006 when we got them. The white calf is the bull in today's pics, the reddy coloured calf is the dun cow with its mother, the black cow.
Thorin
Cool pics Chris. I think my wife wants to come visit for the day just to look at all the animals, can I send her down next weekend? What type of bird is this? http://www.gatesgarth.com/animals_october_2009/DSC07951.JPG

Chris Wilson
Yes, no worries, send beer with her, I'll be in Anglesey on Sunday though That bird's a Golden Pheasant. The purple coloured one is a Monal Pheasant. We have peafowl and Lady Amherst pheasants, too. We are doing another major hatch next year, so if anyone wants peafowl, goldens, amherst, ringneck, Guinea fowl, emu or rhea eggs or chicks let me know. We are also hoping to have a litter from our young Bouvier des Flandres bitch, who has a superb nature. She'll be mated to Boo, our huge male. Both are blonde, so we hope to have SOME blonde pups, but the mating should also throw the more common brindles and charcoals. We also want a litter from our Anatolian Karabash, who is also very nicely natured (for an Anatolian.....) and she'll be mated to a Seacop Kennels sire. Neither bitches have been mated before, so who knows, but we are giving it a go

Chris Wilson
Yes, a European Eagle Owl, we did have 3, the mother of the two we have now was VERY old, about 25 we think, and had bad cataracts, but we persuaded the place we got them from to let us keep the family together and she had another 3 years here in a 90 foot aviary instead of a 15 foot by 10 foot one. I had to take her feed in every day and put it by her, as she couldn't see well enough to find the chicks herself, but she was still laying six months before she died earlier this year. I like to think she had a few more good times, she was very laid back, and walked miles every week as she had lost the confidence to fly. She was very unlike her son who is a bit of a one, and I have the scars to prove it! We lost a wallaby around the same time, in the very cold spell in January, but sometimes these things come at once. We think we have found another wallaby in Yorkshire, I think the one left should have a pal again really.

RedM
In the pic that Mike liked, would they be Aberdeen Anguses (Angusi)? There are some in a field near me and one of my runs takes me along two sides of it. They always seem to wander over to meet me, getting close enough to touch through the fence. My other half went ahead of me whilst we were on a walk and could not entice them to her at all. I strolled up and they came over straight away! How weird is that? I like to think it's some kind of animal thing and they know that I don't want to eat them.

Ewen
We have been looking at moving for a year or so now...being totally miss-matched as we are, we cant even agree on what continent to live on let alone type of property etc so the process has been long and acrimonious so far. Chris's various posts have done something amazing...they have inspired an idea that both of us are really keen on.
