JS2004
It does take some getting used to but its fairly configurable took me a while to figure out how to turn the purple background off of mine though lol. Hammer just means everything else wont work as well as explorer

Gambit
Try starting the pc in safe made and deleting from there. I think constantly tapping the F8 key after pressing power on should bring up the option for safe mode.
creative
Just use flock. based on FF but miles better! You can then edit the config very easily.

stevie_b
Just use flock. Same again lol flock??? As i said guys im not that hot on pc's so if you could elaborate a little that would be good Flock is yet another web browser. I believe it's optimised for social networking sites, but I'm not sure what its benefits are over Firefox. Dnk, have you tried this (apologies for not reading the rest of the thread, I'm a bit pushed for time)? It came from here. There are a few ways you can clear your tracks in Internet Explorer 8 1. Proactively with InPrivate Browsing - Internet Explorer 8 provides you with a choice over when your browsing habits are being recorded... <...doesn apply if you trying to delete existing history...> 2. Reactively with Enhanced Delete Browsing History To clear your tracks after you've browsed click Safety from the Command bar and select Delete Browsing History from the menu to open up a page of options. From here you can choose a number of options to keep your browsing private. Place check boxes next to the items you wish to remove and click Delete to cover your tracks. stevie_b
Here's another suggestion: I guess the history must be in the registry somewhere. Editing the registry is not for the fat-fingered, but it can work wonders if you're careful with it. Go to Start, click Run then type "regedit" without the quotes and hit Enter. My PC has IE7 not IE8, but I found my history list in "My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs". Pick part of one of your history (some text that's unlikely to appear in another context on your PC) and Edit->Find... Make sure the Data box is ticked (that's where the URLs are most likely to be hiding). e.g. if you've been to a web page called "http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/latest-flyout.html", then just search for something like "cssplay" or "flyout". If you find them, you can delete them by right-clicking the Name column and selecting Delete. Disclaimer: editing the registry is usually fine if you're careful and I would have no hesitation in doing this if I was in your situation, but please do so at your own risk! Dnk
Thanks for the help Steve, i'll have to have a look later as ive got some turf to lay this morning. I think ive tried the registry route but that didnt work either, i'll check though incase im going wrong somewhere though. Im just re installing IE 8, i'd got down to IE 6 and no change on the pc and now read that you cant unistall IE totally so thats not the fix i need. Dnk
Ive now tried all the fixes and none work, it seems this is a common fault with lots of folks asking the same question, a few seem to clear the address bar but most are stuck like me with nothing working. Microsoft engineers say its virus linked but my pc seems to work fine and ive scanned it with ccleaner, winclear, spybot, malwarebytes, avg 8.5 and all clear !! I had one other fault which seems to be okay now which was java not being enabled as far as i can tell. Think it must be an inbred microsoft problem perhaps
