Gambit
Hey Dunk! What version of IE are you using? What you've done (clear history) should of done the trick, maybe it needs a restart. Xp or Vista?
Dnk
I think its IE 8 and im using XP, ive tried just about every route it suggests on google search and the drop down address bar is the same. Even after a restart. I think my pc must have something daft going on as java is now working again, its begining to p me off though as it'll stop working say after watching 2 or 3 videos on youtube, and their not naughty ones either lol
Gambit
If it's IE 8 you can manually delete them. Click the drop down and hover over one of them, you should see a red x on the right of the one your hovering over, clicking it will remove it. not the best fix, but a fix all the same. I think I'd download ie8 and reinstall it.

JS2004
Are you using a third party search engine that has become lodged into your internet explorer? on mine i have the google search which keeps its own history of browsed sites seperate from the IE history..? Gambit
in IE click help then about to get version.
JS2004
number 1 is a third party search engine lodged in ie (nothing to be worried about) number 2 is your internet explorers search engine. If your list is in something like number 1 then you may have to go about a different way of clearing it.. but if its number 2.. then ill have to have a quick think about whats causing it to not be deleted

AndyT
Interesting. I use Chrome now. So clearing Chromes history doesn't necessarily clear the computers history. More to research.

JS2004
try this: IE8 > Tools > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete Settings > Delete AutoComplete history > [select items to delete] > Delete It looks like IE8 has a seperate "history" within the address bar as opposed to the actual history of browsed sites. By clearing the history you have cleared the browsed sites, but its still keeping a history of the main websites visited via typing them directly into the drop down address bar.. at least I think this is what it is.. Let me know if that works or not, if not im back to ze drawing boards!
JS2004
You should be able to fiddle with autocompletes settings in order to make it not log history too.. but im not sure if setting a history log of "0" days means it will never clear it.. might be an idea setting it to "1" day so the most you will ever have is the current days auto-complete history in your address bar.. Failing that there must be an option to turn it off too
Dnk
Already tried that and set the days to zero, still no differant
JS2004
hmm.. On a plus note im having the same java problems as you but just switch over to mozilla for youtube.. If autocomplete didnt clear it then im confused, just did it on mine and it erased it all.. i even took a tick out of the box to say "use autocomplete for web pages" and its stopped logging them. I cant imagine why any malicious software would attempt a death-by-address spam.. so it might be an idea (if it is getting to you that much) to reinstall the explorer - mines gone screwey a few times in the past and a fresh install of the explorer (usually) clears up any major problems. ill keep looking though, stuff like this bugs me. Pc's bug no end as it never seems to do what it says on the tin lol I take it to reinstall IE8 i'll need to remove it from my add/remove programs section then download it again ? Try the restore defaults bit first though I think as theres been lots of updates since IE 8 was installed i could be opening a can of worms removing it. Not sure about that so think i'll have to get someone round to have a look before i crash my whole system. Thanks for everyones help with this and if i get to the answer i'll post up and let you guys know.
JS2004
its bugging me, seems your not the only one having that problem though. If it were in vista seems to be corrupted history file of some sort but your in XP.. which has less "answers" available. Restoring it to its "just downloaded" state would be something id try to do, short of removing and reinstalling it at this moment. If you have a tech-head friend just ask them to pop round for a bit and have a look at it, probably easier to fix if the system is in front of you.. Sorry the suggestions didnt work matey =(
