Scooter
Just wondering if anyone has ever phoned/contacted/visited a dealer to get old copies of servicing invoices, whether for their own old services (i'm thinking this will have been easier as you are an ongoing customer in the dealers eyes) or those done before they owned the car? I'm looking to do it myself and just interested to know if my phone calls will be in vain! or if they charged etc......
Scooter
Just as a follow up the service department of Steven Eagell's Luton/Befordshire area couldn't have been more helpful. I indicated that I wanted to see what had been done recently so that I could get the right things done when I next had it serviced at my local Toyota dealership (white lie:innocent:). I just had to fax over my V5 to verify current ownership and they faxed all the copy invoices they could back over to me.
Scott
So you knew where the previous owner serviced their car? Handy to know
Scooter
I always had the fully stamped service book but its nice to have the invoices to back it up (they were meant to be getting sent to me), not so much for me as I was 99% sure it was all genuine when i bought it, but if I come to sell the next owner won't have the benefit of meeting the original owner and might be reluctant to accept my version of events! Ahh i'm with you, very handy though. I dare say there are a lot of members with stamps in books that don't have the invoices.
martini
And many members don't have books let alone stamps...
JustGav
Here's the thing though.... I'd far rather have a car from someone who has done the work themselves than a garage sometimes. The people I know put more time and attention into private work than some of the spanner guys I've seen at garages. Stamps are good and all, but don't necessarily mean much. Disclaimer : Not saying this is the case at any specific garage, just my opinoin.

I put my car into a garage I trust for my MOT and i was bricking it after 2 hours because they hadn't got back to me. I trust noone with my car . Dealership garages are the worst IMO. When its a service they get the spanner monkey apprentice to do the work. Not only do they not care about your pride and joy they don't even know what they are doing properly. Enthusiasts always take proper care of their car and will, IMO, always learn how to do the simple and important stuff themselves.

This is where I am lucky, my MOT tester is a very good friend of mine, and I trust him with all the cars in the house without a doubt. To the point he uses my little van on occasions

I agree and hope others will as I'll be doing all my own stuff from now on However the guy I bought it from had had it from 1997 and 11K km's and there are 14 Toyota service stamps to Sept 2008 and 83K km's. I now have the last 5 invoices and for me that provides good reassurance for me and the next owner that all the stamps are genuine and it also gives me an idea of when various service items were last done. Very few (no?) supra owners of the late 90's will have been spanner monkeys so a FTSH is the best you can hope for
