merckx
I'm going to paint my from bumper lip, the previous owner had scratched the bits on the side. I bought some red cellulose paint from my local body shop which I've mixed with the thinners. The horizontal piece which was in the bumper aperture was removed ages ago so I practised on this. I've applied the paint with my quality airbrush and then lacquered it with a can but the colour match isn't perfect but the finish was really good. I'm not sure if I should try elsewhere for some more paint, can you get any decent stuff on the net? Is it possible to get a really good match? I'm going to see if I can get some U-pol 1K clear coat , thought this would be better than the normal Halrauds stuff! Any ideas? Thanks
Jake
Red is a real difficult colour to match. My red Supe was like five different shades under artificial light. Not much help, I know
SkyJawa
I got a few spray cans made up by Autopaint St Helens. They do pots of touch up, spray cans etc, very good price. So far the metallics I've had from them (sorrento green for my pug and midnight purple for the GTR) have been pretty darn close indeed. Just redone my front lip this weekend as it was all scuffed.........

dude
If you dont use a 2K laquer with a plastisiser in it the job wont last 5 mins , ++ you really need to prep the lip with a adhesion promoter and then a decent primer before using a polyester base coat Dude

Would like to get the full bumper done really, just haven't got the funds at the moment!
dude
TBH 1 pack laquer and cellulose is a bit old hat dude , the plasticiser keeps the laquer flexible and stops it cracking , unfortunatly the fact that youve allready put materials on has complicated matters a bit , id leave it and see how it goes Dude
Vaughany
A mate of mine has just done mine aswell as all the other factory black bits. I think he used the following * roughed up the lip with P1000 wet and dry paper * Barcoated Lip (Better than a primer I believe) * Applied base coat (199 silver provided by Autopaint Northampton) * Applied 2k lacquer with a flexible additive added Here is the pictures, it looks really good considering he is not a professional painter and it was done in his garage this weekend. merckx
unfortunatly the fact that youve allready put materials on has complicated matters a bit , id leave it and see how it goes Dude I've only painted the horizontal bit that was in the bumper aperture which was removed when I got the car. Yeah I know, the 1 pack laquer and cellulose is old hat. Thought it would be okay for the front lip though.

Vaughany
I dont if this is a laymans or a professional term but thats whayt it sounded like when he pronounced it. I think it is just a better way to prime it, hopefully Dude can clarify this.
dude
IMO i wouldnt use barcoat , its not really a primer its an isolater , its used to stop materials reacting with whats underneath , we only use it as a last resort , a good 2K primer would be better especially with a dusting of etch primer , the barcoat is pretty flexible though so that may have been the reason for using it , im sure it will be fine , remember not to rub the barcoat down though . Vaughany
Thanks for clarifying this Dude, I was not sure why he used barcoat, he said it would be better than a primer. My mate is not a painter by trade, he just tinkers, the job looks pretty good considering.
SupraStar 3000
I whipped mine off and gave it to Toyota to do (guess toyota would get an exact colour match, which they did) and to my knowledge they used standard paint. 3 years later and the lips looks as good as new
