terribleturner
OK, so i've got some nice bling Cylinder head covers all ready to go on, but i also have some new HKS Cam gears. Now i first thought should i wait before installing the covers untill im about to put the gears on?? and then i thought, well if im gonna do that, should i hold on a little longer so as i can get some new Camshafts?? i hadn't planned on the cams to be honest as of yet, but if i've got it open i may aswell slip some new ones in. Which is the best option?? 1. Just put covers on, and do other jobs at a later date. 2. Wait and put covers on and gears together. 3. Save up for cams and wait to do all 3 at once. b_have
Forget all that and go single?
terribleturner
Im dying to go single, but am with Elephant for another good few months. As soons as my policy ends i think it'll be time Otherwise is it even worth doing the cams??
eyefi
i'd put the gears on when u get cams, unless you're really good with the timing belt. covers are easy.
jase_93tt
Do Elephant not insure modded vehicles ? Do insurers hike up premiums exortionately for a car with only alloys and full aero kit ? Half the JDM imports Ive seen all have mods in some form or other so some insurance company must be willing to provide competitive insurance for modded vehicles. Whos the cheapest for modded vehicle insurance these days ? J
terribleturner
Elephant gave me a really good price, but they wont payout on the mods, although they are happy enough to charge me for each one (the little b@%^$"£s). There's tons and tons of threads on Insurance, do a search above to find the lists of insurance companys people use. i think Adrian Flux and Sky are the top people for modded cars. But there are loads and loads.
supRo
Adrian Flux were competitive, but as I declared more mods, it got bloody expensive - will use Sky next time
terribleturner
Adrian Flux were competitive, but as I declared more mods, it got bloody expensive - will use Sky next time How was it getting the limited mileage changed?? Did it go up alot.
supRo
Yup! Unlimited Mileage, FMIC, and De-Cat cost additional £700 for the remainder of the year (7 months)!!! I think my Turbos are playing up so tempted to go single - God knows how much they'll charge
Alex
Just to be a pain....you'll find no benefit in the cam gears alone. The best position to adjust them to is the stock settings. But I guess they'll look pretty.
terribleturner
Cheers Alex. I've got them now so i'll just put them in to make it all look nice in there The initial reason i bought them was for an article on mkiv.com which recons you get an extra 10rwhp from them. Oh well, seems my turbo's arn't looking too healthy so time to save for a single i think.
Digsy
The initial reason i bought them was for an article on mkiv.com which recons you get an extra 10rwhp from them You probably could, at the expense of a bunch of midrange torque.
terribleturner
OK, so the im gonna put the gears on anyway to look nice through my clear spark plug cover, but how about swapping my Cams with a set of UK's?? Chiefgroover has some available and i thought i'd put them in?? God knows why i have this obsession with doing the cams as well.
Nick
I know of a couple of people that have had problems with the HKS Cam gears, worth asking for some advice regarding fitting....
terribleturner
Yeah i have heard of something before. But will ask before then finally go on. Nick, do you know if they were in refferance to UK cams and HKS Gears?? or J-Spec Cams??
