Scott
Jesus this forum has changed since I was last on. Before I left if you could not grasp spelling & grammar you where a retard, and the blame was pinned on allowing these retards to breed. Oh no!!! The double standards have struck again? Shit, didn't realise it was you Mark. We basically just blamed everything on you while you were gone. Ahh who cares, it's your fault anyway. Scott
Get in!!! Thirty five minutes and two pieces of A4, but I did it. Thats about right, it is a cracking riddle IMO. Real sense of accomplishment when you finish it and know the reasoning. Some people fluke it lol.
TonyP
Einstein was a very bad speller bud. Intelligence has nothing to do with repetetive teachings Bollocks! The ability to spell everyday words is a pretty good indication of basic intelligence imo. *awaits the complaints from the "dyslexic" on th forum*

Scott
Bollocks! The ability to spell everyday words is a pretty good indication of basic intelligence imo. *awaits the complaints from the "dyslexic" on th forum* Is this a learned objection or just an opinion? I am an average speller at best, I am a product of the internet in that my punctuation is often terrible through haste and lazyness, my IQ is quite a bit above the national average and I came 8th in a secondary school mathematics test (national test taken in 1996 by 4th year students). I am not in any way articulate, I am often terrible at trying to get my point of view across and have to rely heavily on analogy's. People often confuse articulate people with intelligence and poorly articulated people with being thick. It isn't the case, both cross into each others habits

I don't count any spelling mistakes in your post and you got your point across quite clearly and succinctly. I do, however, stand by my opinion, I guess I may be a little old fashioned but I will always believe that spelling and punctuation are important. [Any errors in spelling or punctuation are solely the result of alcohol] Ahh there is a difference in what I class as being good at spelling though. Other than dyslexia, there is no excuse for poor basic spelling. What i meant is that I am not that great at spelling when it comes to proper words lol. Generally any spelling mistakes I make are down to haste or plain not knowing how the word is spelled because i don't use it. If I don't know how to spell something I will spell it phonetically as best I can. Some people just have a knack for spelling, my Wife's brother being one of them. He is reasonably well educated and did well in school but for me that doesn't tell me he is an intelligent person (he is reasonably intelligent in my opinion though). Dash Rendar
Gentlemen, I think you mean the median instead of the average. Edited, as I think I was talking rubbish.
Ace
A bit late for me to come along picking, but... I believe they mean the mean (no pun intended), which is generally taken to be the accepted common use of the word 'average'. They would only mean the median if the distribution of intelligence was a perfecly symmetrical Gaussian distribution, which it isn't. Consequently, it's not true that half the population are less intelligent than the median, while it is true that half the population are less intelligent than the mean. So what was said originally stands. I thought that fitted in nicely with the current topic, which is a fairway off the OP! I completely understand what you're saying. The answer is "socket set", right?
Ian C
Maybe the further away you are from the average (in the good direction of course), the worse everyone else seems Much like I consider anyone under about 6' 2" to be "short" haha Spelling isn't necessarily a measure of intelligence, but what message is attempted to be conveyed is. Consider a post like this: I cant start my surpa it sort of turns over but then makes a clkcing noise. Compared to one like this: dunno wassup wit mi sup, fecker wont start lol try 2 strat it but it just wont Which one makes you think "you thick twat"? Mind you, you lot went down in my estimation after the whole plane/treadmill debacle Yeah, jet and prop thrust on air is affected by undriven wheels turning -Ian

Jake
Definitely not a new thing. A lady who has just started at our place is so dense. She literally can't pick anything up. She can't even file alphabetically. We took on a guy as a unix tech, who was the dimmest person I've ever worked with. (And I've worked in scrapyards and B&Q). Apparently the guy had got the highest score ever on his pre-interview technical test (I suspect the 3 mobile phones he always carries might have helped in some way) When they placed him on my team I was 'surprised' to find out that he didn't seem to have ever used a computer before beyond surfing the net and checking his email. Honestly, the guy wasn't familiar with the terms 'Copy' or 'Paste'. He is currently pursuing other career opportunities. --- I know this is an old thread. I found it while searching for something else.
Pot
Honestly, the guy wasn't familiar with the terms 'Copy' or 'Paste'. And he couldn't even figure out it'd be cp or mv (If it was a file to be copied or moved, or the right click depending on the shell if it was text in UNIX?) (Or even ctrl+c and ctrl +v in windows?) He is currently pursuing other career opportunities. Oh, just shoot him. This post was sponsored by the controls CTRL +C, and CRTL +V, and the number 69. hiten55
The best indication that the population is beginning to become a bit thick is in supermarkets. There no sense of order in how people shop. I personally start at the first isle then weave my way up and down all the others one by one until i reach the end. most times i will meet the same person coming in the opposite direction at least 3 times Then once you've paid and are ready to leave, some numbnuts will try to leave via the entry door which has a huge "no entry" sign in the middle of it. Said idiot then gets into his/her vauxhaul cavalier and attempts to drive home. jeez, if the cant control a shopping trolley and navigate basic door signs in a supermarket what hope do they have on a road??? Ewen
I'm a great source of amusement at the office when it comes to computers. The young nippers can run rings round me with their shortcuts and pure speed and dexterity on a keyboard. I'm a bit of a dinosaur in that respect. I usually beat them all at pool and darts though. I sometimes regret not being born at the dawn of the computer age, or having the opportunity and time to learn nowt else but the skills and knowledge required to use todays technology to the 'n'th' degree.....as with the guitar, or piano, or foreign languages, or car mechanics, I could have applied myself more over the years, but haven't.
