Gambit
Symptoms: 1. It's sometimes reluctant to get a move on and it takes longer for the turbo's to work. 2. when you back off quickly you can get a shut off sensation, a pop down the exhaust and a jerk. 3. Often when you take your foot off the acc at about 30/40mph it feels like your towing something, the nose drops and then the revs will blip up one notch and the car will act normal again. 4. Fuel economy has gone to hell. I'm guessing this is a mixture between air and fuel, what do you think?

BlackWatch66
yeah meh here as well! How long does it take the car to act completely normal? I reckon you should try and reset ecu and then drive it, then pull any error codes judging by your description I have an incling its your o2 sensor or something to do with fuel injection maybe try some injector cleaner ?? leelbuk
judging by your description I have an incling its your o2 sensor or something to do with fuel injection maybe try some injector cleaner ?? If it were O2 sensors wouldn't this happen when the engine warms up? I thought the ECU ignores O2 sensors until the engine has warmed up? Someone else may be able to say for definite. supspower
Im guessing fueling maybe, would a gunked up throttle body give some of the same symptoms?
Missile
Surly its best to wait for the temp to be up before using the turbos. Sounds just like the auto choke is still on. How does it run when the temp is up?
James
It's just because it's still cold. Mine does it. Just be very smooth on throttle and don't try drive it hard(ish) until you're at ~60 degrees oil temp. That's where I go from anyways. Gambit
It didn't use to do it so it can't be just the way it's supposed to be. The fact that when you lift your foot off at 40 the revs drop too low, the nose dips and the car starts to slow until it realises and blips the revs up surely must mean something is wrong....? Chris Wilson
Do you think it could be a gearbox problem? Check the fluid level on the dipstick with the engine idling in Park.
pistonbroke
When you come off the throttle when the cars warmed up, do you hear popping, like backfiring?
martini
When you come off the throttle when the cars warmed up, do you hear popping, like backfiring? Is this bad? I have this in second gear and I love the sound.
pistonbroke
Maybe slightly different on an NA, but the TT backfires when the TPS is buggered or badly adjusted.
Gambit
Do you think it could be a gearbox problem? Check the fluid level on the dipstick with the engine idling in Park. I don't think so Chris, fluid is good and box works fine. It feels like I'm having a mixture problem when the engine is cold.... Too much air, not enough fuel or vice versa and the management is having to compensate. When you come off the throttle when the cars warmed up, do you hear popping, like backfiring? I have no problems once it gets warmed up. On a different note and it's done this since I've had the car so seperate from the other problem. I'f I'm on the motorway with cruise on for no apparent reason it will occasionally drop into 3rd and back into 4th after about 2/3 seconds??? pistonbroke
When was the last time you had the g/box oil changed? could be down to viscosity of the oil when cold?
Gambit
When was the last time you had the g/box oil changed? could be down to viscosity of the oil when cold? That sounds interesting I might give it a go when I get it back from the body shop. I think Chris was the last to do it in 2005. How often should it be done? I just edited my previous post I said Chris did a service in 95 it was 05 not 95 Edited October 10, 2009 by Gambit (see edit history)
