How fast are N/A's??

Hi I hope you can help me. I've had my 94 SZ for a few months now (loving every minute of it). But I took it to a test track the other day to see how fast it is booted it with the o/d got it up to 120 red line then turn it off, into fourth and then she very slowly accelarated up to 130 and I couldn't get any more out of her. I was expecting it to be alot quicker and faster I've had the speedo converted to MPH and at the same time De-limited so they say, but i'm not convinced. If you could help me out with some info it would be good.:conf:

NAs are blisteringly quick*. Most of the TT guys get really defensive when the select few talk about their legendary performance.

:D

Someone with the gear ratios and rolling radius figures should pop up soon with the theoretical top speed calcs. There was a spreadsheet floating around somewhere that worked it all out for you.

*Especially when fitted with lightweight three spoke alloys.

I've had 150 out of mine (obviously on a track, although it was a little bit M25 junction 7 shaped)

That was before I boltled and slowed down, I reckon there was still a bit to go.

Mind you, that was the day after I bought her. I think my bottle has gone up a bit now.

I've had 90mph out of mine, going past a primary school. I would have gone faster, but I had a number of small children and grannies stuck in the wheelarches, plus I spilt my beer.

Normally I'd do this sort of speed on the motorway, but there's speed cameras there and I might have got caught.

I like your style

I knew there was a fault with the MKIV , NO pint glass holder.

I dont know what you can do about stopping bits of bodies getting stuck in the arches, perhaps if you lower the car then the kids and grannies would go over the top, you could keep your speed up and not splll the beer.

LOL very good :D

I'd like to lie and say I got that speed at a track day, best I managed on the track was around 120, the M1 southbound was my max run so far, about 3 in the morning if that makes it any more excusable.

quote from Supra Pilot:

155 kleptons and counting.......

I can vouch for this 'erbert's claim........

I had to reset my 'way-of-driving' to keep up with 'im in my TT !

I think mine's got more VERY top-end (165*** indicated VERY

easily, with what feels like lots to come !)

BUT, acceleration/low-end the 'NON-LAG' in the N/A seems to

make up for the lack of 'upper-end' power ? ! ?

{ OR...........I may be a complete WOOS of a driver }

REALISTICALLY, the N/A probably isn't ANY slower on normal roads ?

(just hasn't got the Turbo 'feel' - personal choice ?)

Scott,

Make sure your air filter is clean...but don't replace it with a cone filter.

Get an exhaust and de-cat it.

Then you could look into better, longer duration cams...though they will make the power more peaky.

You could also investigate getting the head re-worked for better breathing....

Never really ran any proper 'Timed' runs 1/4 etc against a TT.

But have done a few rolling runs and a couple Traffic lt launches against them(stock, mainly Auto's) and acceleration for acceleration was not much difference on a Standing Launch, I had a wee better first into second advantage, then the TT's start to move...... same with rolling runs.

They start to pull away, but still not much at all, I was always right there all the way to triple figures......

I have noticed a difference with the BPu TT's, a bit more respect for those babies...

I think that BHP calculator gives a theoretical top speed of around 146mph for a stock NA.

I got up to 140.6mph in 1.2 miles at 10 of the Best (n.b. speedo was reading about 153). Only reached a little under 6,200 revs (5 speed manual), and was still accelerating steadily, if slowly. I reckon a genuine 150 is definitely attainable.

Awaiting a longer runway...
