Your old jspec headlights please?

Hi, I'm looking for a cheap set of j-spec headlights as a donor pair for my clear lense replacement as I don't fancy taking the dremel to my facelifts. Doesn't matter what condition the lenses are in, nor does it matter what condition the rest are in as it's only the 'lip' of the lenses that I'll be using.

If you've got a set of knackered headlights, maybe yellowed or melted from being in the oven, give me a shout please :)

They're from the group buy earlier this year (maybe even last year) bud, I didn't buy them in the gb but a set came up for sale later and I bought them then.

I bet there's lots of people have them sitting gathering dust in their garages/sheds who've been put off by the certain pain in the arse of fitting them, might be worth firing up a wanted thread bud?

i have a pair of jspec pre facelift headlights which i striped to do a clear lense replacement. both striped apart damage free, got to the stage of dremel cutting the lense on one lense but lost interest after breaking several dremel cutting blades. i am a perfectionist and there is nothing wrong with the work i have done on the lense so far. got straped for cash and finally sold the clear lenses. these are perfect for what you need but the chrome inserts were flaking on the chrome rings so would be no good for trying to reproduce the facelift look (im sure you know what i mean if you are considering the clear lense replacement) let me know if you are interested and ill send you pics.

Cheers Abz :)

It'd be a shame to butcher a set that are in decent condition though, it's only the lip that I need and the rest will likely go in the bin. I'm hoping for a set that have been damaged and are no use to anyone the way that they are. Chances are I'll need another set after I f*** it up (or "learn as I go" as I prefer to think of it). :D

No worries dude, yes these are in pretty good condition. Though I am sure someone on the forum can get a set to you for the part you require. Give it a couple of days, maybe the traders could help you?

I know it is a little off topic but when it comes time to do the lenses... don't use screws bud. Trim the lens the exact shame of the outer lip and glue it on using black silicone in the corner.

Looks MUCH better than the regular method IMO.

Then you just mask up a border and spray it on using matt black... job done.

Cheers for the tip Scott :)

Would that mean that I don't need to use isopon/filler then??

Btw, did you do your wheels matt, gloss or satin black bud?

I didn't use anything at all, other than a half decent silicone sealant. I used a white one, as it was all I had, but a black one would be absolutely ideal. That way you can keep the border really thin once finished. They looked fantastic and far better than some of the other ones I have seen on here.

Wheels are matt black bud, bought them that way. Very very little difference between satin and matt though.

This was the end result, including a facelift style refurb...

Immense! It's pics like that that make me more determined to do a good job on them. I've seen some pics where the border was very thick and it sort of ruined the look, yours look like a factory job rather than a diy.

I'm waiting on my wheels coming back from the powder coaters, went for satin and hoping they come out well.

The only issue with doing it my way is you need 6 hands to do it lol.

I just realised, I used some UHU superglue to glue the rim to the lens, and then sealed the inside using silicone.... forgot about the glue. Just some decent general application bonding glue is fine. Clear preferably.

Not sure if it is necessary or not but it made the job a lot easier for me as it would harden very quickly. It meant I could hold each area in place while it set. Obviously this would be impossible with the silicone as it can take up to 24hrs to cure.

Satin will look exactly the same as mine bud. You get a certain shine, or more of a sheen, from satin but it is barely noticeable on wheels. Good choice.
