Undersealing???

Hi all just a quick question for you all from a prospective supra owner. I've heard that imported supras are not undersealed from corrosion etc etc, This being due to the fact that japan has a lower saline environment to our own lovely UK climate. I have been told to check that the car has been undersealed. Is this correct? If so how do I check for undersealing etc???

Mines under been stealed and was a fresh import but im not sure if this is common practice. Basically you have a black rubbery lining under your car, it will be pretty obvious as you wont be able to see painted metal flooring etc etc...

 

If its not rubbery and sort of soft its probably duff anyway and will start cracking, letting and trapping in water, thus causing probably more rusting.

i used to think this was a bit of urban myth that j-specs were not undersealed from the factory, mine was but others have definately reported theres wasn't, car model does not seem to make any difference so you will have to check, its very easy as the factory underseal is a very thick mastic type substance which you cant miss

Go get it undersealed. I'm getting mine done for the second time in 3 years of ownership.

I've had MK2 and MK3 before (total 23 years of supra ownership in the family) and it is definatly THE thing to do if you wish to keep you car for years. Even though the MK4 is less prone to take rust, there are places and times it will and its just sooo much easier to get it sealed than fixing rust.

Just make sure to use a good place as I've seen some horrid examples of how bad shops do it (or rather don't do it)
