DaveSupTT
Hi, I was wondering if someone could tell me what the score is with emmssions test on the Supra. Am I correct in thinking that some of the imports are exempt from the test, and hense do not require cats? My car is having its MOT today, and it has both cats removed. Its just had a complete engine rebuild so this should help with emmissions as everything is new! My car is a J-spec 1994 import. Can anyone shed any light on this. Ive tried to search for info on the web and internet but cant find anything. Cheers Dave
Matt H
I doubt it... Why would they be?
DaveSupTT
I dont know, I thought that some imports were. Thats what I was told by a garage when I had my MR2?
AlanM
1992 and prior are exempt as far as I know. 1993 onwards are not
Multics
My car is a 1994 R33 Skyline with an RB25DET engine. There's no cat, straight through exhaust from the turbo. On the V5 it says Import and there's no emission readings. This is what I've been told by an MOT tester: Because it's an import and the engine is not listed in the computer, the emissions are tested against the highest allowed: CO HC My engine emissions results: CO HC So that's a Pass
Scott
Late 1992 onwards require a CAT test if they are UK cars. Late 1995 onwards require a CAT test regardless of whether they are UK or not. Imports are covered up to 1995, there is no reglatory test for imports up to that year. Its been covered so many times on here i struggle to see how the regulars have missed it HTH

Or, is what your saying, is the car needs to be imported before 1995?

You might need to explain this to the testers though as some of them don't realise it, i had to anyway.

This ONLY applies to import cars, so if the car is registered 1996 onwards, you need a CAT for the MOT

DaveSupTT
Well Good news...IT PASSED WITH FLYING COLOURS! Spoke to the MOT place and they said the car has passed with flying colours. I said thats great and asked about the emissions and how it got on etc and he said that it flew through the emissions test and the reading was very low, even though it had no Cats in the car. So thats my car officially back on the road after over 1yr 2 months!!!! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
