Guest Winterlolli
Hello, Was driving down the motor way this morning, with the heating on, was working nicely (quite cold outside), over the course of the journey i started to get cold and realised that the heater no longer worked.... I have checked all fuses, in car and engine bay, all seem fine. Could this be the dreaded heater matrix? Just want to be sure before i start pulling the bloody dash off, if it is the heater matrix where best would i source one from? Many thanks
bromy
Check your water pump is circulating the water properly (both top and bottom hoses hot) I am only saying this as I have just blown my headgasket because the same thing happened to me. Could be something less sinister but get it checked out

pistonbroke
If it does turn out to be the heater matrix, don't fret too much. Someone found a very cheap alternative to the genuine toyota jobby. Search cheap matrix and you'll find it.

Search cheap matrix and you'll find it. A new OEM Toyota heater matrix isn't very expensive, however paying someone to fit it is a completely different story! http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7443/thematrix002.jpg
Nic
You can usually smell the coolant inside the car if the heater matrix is leaking, you also usually get water vapour/dripping from the vents or passenger side footwell. Hopefully it is just an airlock in the system.
Swampy442
And you would still get heat. Check your water level, how is the heater valve operated, is it like a Soarer/Mk1 Aristos and use a VSV? (At work and havent got toyodiy) Thats a common failure on Soarers
Terminator
From what you describe the loss of heat took place over a relatively short time sound more like a mechanical failure. I would recommend checking that the pump is circulating very soon. Some of the plastic bladed ones, drop blades over time leaving the car with very little if no water circulation and bang goes the engine. Other possibilities, your radiator cap is useless and you have lost coolant, enough to cause an air lock. Check you coolant reservoir if it is near empty, suspect the cap.
