well as they were from my camera I can tell you that it was with a Nikon D70 ;) some choice set up options with that to get that colour etc, but very easy to use :) I can't see myself changing from this camera body for a long time :)

Do you mean a DSLR? I use a Canon 400D (Rebel XTI if you don't mind buying in the USA and not having a UK warranty - saved a couple of pennies when I bought it), takes great pics, you might need to hunt to get it for £250, the next model down (350D) is just as good and should be easily picked up for £250 with a kit lense

Yeah you really wont get the best out of the camera just using auto mode, most of the time the pics will just look like a decent compact.

Most people do think it is all down to the camera but a certain amount of practice is needed along with the basics covered :)

sadly, have to agree.... a lot of people do just think the bigger/better camera will take better pictures ;)

best suggestion is learn the basics, ISO, shutter speed and aperture... get a good quality lens (and a polariser) as that will make the most difference. Oh and a tripod and remote - these will keep the camera very steady and should ensure rather decent sharpness, etc.
