Jake
My Jemma has broken her laptop screen - well, obviously she didn't break it, it was just like that when she opened the laptop lid today. The glass is cracked right across and the screen has large blank/black areas. It's a Dell 'Studio 1555', about 2 months old, so parts shouldn't be a problem, I guess. Anyone know if these have to go back to Dell for a new screen or can a regular PC repair shop get these parts? Any idea on ballpark price? Thanks
Scott
http://www.lcds4less.co.uk/DellLaptop__dell_studio_1555__laptop-screens.html £90 from there, that is obviously if you want to do the job yourself. Dell will charge an arm and a leg. House insurance?

Branners
Jake, let me know how that goes. I was always of the opinion that a dead screen is a dead laptop. The costs are usually prohibitive and so we just kill off the laptops when they die. If screens are that cheap we can spend the time fitting them so it may bring some of the lappies back to life. Jake
Will do, John. Jem's laptop cost me £508 so it's worth a shot. I hope they come with decent instructions and don't need special tools.
Branners
The laptops tend to use hex screws and some other slightly wierd screws so a selection of different screw bits might be handy. There are usually workshop manuals for most laptops on the internet so it is worth tracking down one of those as they tell you exactly where to find the screws and connectors to get the screen out. merckx
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/studio1555/en/SM/display.htm#wp1179838 Good find. I would never have thought that this would be available on their own website.
