Meko
Right... i've lost the will to live! When i bought the Supra there was no needle in the thermostat, looked like the daft shit manage to snap it off when swapping the dials for nice shiney ones. Put a wanted ad up for a new dial console and bought Wiggy1980's automatic one; as i only needed the petrol and thermostat part i took that part out, dismantled my dash and swapped it. After arsing around putting the dashboard back together, nothing worked.. Dismantled it again and after checking everything over and over again the rev counter works but no other dials. The indicators work, the handbrake light works and the rev counter. If i push the thermostat needle right down and turn it ignition on it goes right up. The petrol gauge stays at the bottom but the the light doesn't come on. The red 12v cable had come loose but i've reconnected this and still no joy. The simple half an hour job has taken a few hours and i'm reaching for the Jack Daniels! it's got to be something simple but i can't think what. Any ideas please? Steve
Sometimes the copper terminals inside the loom plugs go flat as i found out. I had to get a small screwdriver and bend all the terminals back up so they actually make the connection when plugged into the cluster. Worth a try
Nic
Drop Heckler a pm he is the resident expert on all things dash related/electrical. The solder on the circuit boards tends to be a common cause of this type of thing.
Meko
cheers... just been to the petrol station to put air in the tyres and the speedo hit the dizzy heights of 20mph and stayed there after i turned the ignition off. The thermostat seems to go to about 10mm away from the top and then goes right up... so i've a feeling i might have put the pin on wrong which for me isn't impossible, seeing as i managed to drop the rev counter pin below the notch and wondered why that wasn't working! I'll check the terminals tomorrow and report back / pm Heckler when it's lighter, i've had a chance to look and i've not got a pint of JD and coke in front of me.. (should have just left it to the garage when they do everything else)
