HadeS
Hi. As I'll be going back to my snowy and frosty town (Zakopane - south of Poland) I would like to know your opinion about winter tyres on supra. On my old cars FWD I always used tyres not very wide to cut snow better. Do any one have some of experience of driving in snow by Supra? All advice will be very welcome Cheers

dani_r
When it snowed here earlier in the year, it was by far the best day I've EVER had in the Supra! I wish I had got some vids of the fun we had, it was excellent! For me, driving a Supra with an LSD in the snow is loads of fun!...but not very practical
edinlexusV8
This is exactly the question I am after. Does anyone have an answer to this? I would not suggest driving an RWD car in winter /wet / Cold /snow conditions with out winter tyres. http://www.etyres.co.uk/winter-tyres-law I suppose it is time we all guys have a look at having a set of winter spares atleast between November and April. Swampy442
You can get winter tyres, if youre really worried about it then get a set of Supra 17s, fit winter tyres and bang them on, once summer comes just swap back to the bling wheels and R888's Personally Id park it up and use a cheap smoker for the really bad weather, but I realise thats not an option for everyone
DSK
There are a few specialist winter tyres can be pruchsed and fitted for such adverse conditions. The ones that generall tend to sell the most or fit to people spare wheels for winter are by Continental. The benefits of winter tyres in general are that they operate efficiently at low temperatures (unlike the usual all season/summer tyres that almost every vehicle will be fitted with). The tread design and tread blocks are designed specifically to help the tyre generate traction in the snow and also help provide more grip and braking performance. HadeS
Winter time it was always my best time in the year. Could not wait for it. Snow, side way, snowbording. I'm not looking for tyres becouse I'm afraid of winter. I'm looking for tyres to get as much as I can from winter driving ;]
Chris Wilson
Get some stock N/A rims (same width front and rear) see what winter tyres are sized to stretch onto said rim widths. Let's say the makers recommend a 205/50/17 tyre for rims of 6 to 8 inch wide and your rims are 8 inches wide. The tyre to buy is the narrowest width size recommended for your wheel width that maintains near to correct rolling radius. If budget permits and weather is bad enough over a long enough period, get some studded tyres. Can't believe people say don't use a RWD car in the snow, there most be 1/2 million Swedes who manage to get through their lives driving RWD cars in heavy snow and ice, unscathed A narrow and tall tyre, with a suitably rugged, self clearing and deep tread pattern, that's what you need in snow or ice. HadeS
I do know about narrow and tall tyres but Ive been wondering do anyone can recomend me some of them winter tyres from his own experience.
Sharpie
For cars with the larger brake setup, the UK Toyota handbook says to fit 235/45/ZR17 all round when moving to winter tyres. (using them on stock 17" rims)
dr_jekyll
vredstien make a verry good range of winter m&s , try there website.
Robbie
You wont go too far wrong if you look at the Dunlop sp All season brands. They've excellent grip on the snow/ice but also work well on tarmac, unlike some winter tyres. Vredstien Ultrac 3 might be a good option too. pbryant_knight
I'd stick with the plan of not taking it in the snow. I couldn't even get out of my street last week and got stuck sideways blocking the road twice too. Just zero traction.
Sharpie
Thanks all. GY F1-GSD3's are not good in the snow. Have also been looking at Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3's and Continental WinterContact TS810S.
Need4Speed
Is nobody reading this thread in Sweden and Norway? I have to agree with CW (again) that RWD is not a problem in snow. A manual is going to be easier than an auto if the going gets icy. Having said that I drive auto... in the south of France where it's 12ºC today! dandan
For cars with the larger brake setup, the UK Toyota handbook says to fit 235/45/ZR17 all round when moving to winter tyres. (using them on stock 17" rims) Is that on a standard set of rims (8" and 9.5" widths) or does it say anything about the rear 235 tyres having to be on an additional pair of "UK front" wheels? Need4Speed
Standard rims.
Sharpie
I just put some Continental WinterContact TS830's all round on my FWD family car and what a difference!!! The Pilot Alpin PA3's are £204:80 e.a. at mytyres.....maybe I'll just leave the Supra in the garage till spring as normal
Kirk
Im running pirelli wintersports at the minute, 225 front and rear with (unstaggered stock 16s) and the car is easy enough to keep under control although i would much prefer some studded tyres but they dont come cheap
gt4tosupra
I sold my Szr back in april due to poor winter performance, i really wish i'd bought winter/snow tyres now and tried them out instead of just selling it, maybe i would have kept the supra if so! someone said nokian hakkawhatevertherecalled are awesome in the snow? It was my daily drive and i dont want 2 cars, maybe i'll get another supe sometime if someone can convince me on the winter tyres thing! In the meantime my gt4 is awesome in the snow, even on summer tyres!

Gaz6002
Winter tyres are fantastic, I can't believe no-one in the UK buys them. In Germany you'd get fined if you abandon your car on the road like half of this country seems to do.
