L33
Just heard on the radio a copper in manchester has been given 10k in compensation because he was asked to take his turbin off to put a riot helmet on in training? I mean wtf! Personally i think if thats his problem let him take a chance without the helmet. I cant believe how some people seem to be able to bend rules and stick the religion excuse on it. So whats next.... They dont have to wear hard hats on a building site? What makes them a exception? If you dont like our rules dont move here its simple! It makes my blood boil. Most likely our taxs paying the compo money too. Sorry i cant paragraph im on my phone, so annoyed i had to let it out and couldnt wait til i was home. Rant over

michael
I took my turbin (sic) off early and I got a free sandwich. £3,500 for indirect racial and religious discrimination and £6,500 for harassment after suffering psychological damage, injury to feelings and personal injury http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/oct/02/sikh-police-turban-tribunal I suspect he would have rather risked a brick on the head, his choice I say but no compensation if he gets hurt. Rant over they don,t wear hats on building site,s which i do not agree with after seeing a guy wearing a turban get hit by a concrete pump hose, the blood was everywhere and a hard hat would have deffo helped:(
tooquicktostop
He was told to "take that thing off" and suffered harrasment for it It is against his religion to remove the Turban, I dont see the issue, what did you expect him to do The police encourage ethnic groups to join and should be prepared with a procedure on how to deal with this scenario Seems like it is the police force who should be looking at themselves

Singh, 31, was also asked whether he could modify his turban. He told the tribunal he feared he would be made to look like a comic character from Only Fools and Horses, where in one episode Del Boy Trotter tries to sell 200 "crash turbans" for fashion-conscious motorbike-riding Sikhs in Peckham – the motorcycle helmets had cloth wrapped around them. Singh said he suffered panic attacks, stress and palpitations and was off sick over the issue during the long-running dispute. To be honest I thought the various forces already had versions of their equipment to deal with this kind of thing I'd like one of these no matter what religion I was... http://www.tasco-safety.com/hhats/pix/3013274.jpg There is nothing silly about them at all... http://www.tasco-safety.com/hhats/pix/2cowboy.jpg

Doesn't matter what religion you are. thats a bit harsh, but it does worry me everyday i am responsible for over 100 men on a construction site, we have all cultures here, the 2 main things that worry me are the guys that wear turbans and the guys that don,t speak English, we do use interpreters but i think thats wrong, IMO i worry about safety all the time. Dnk
Is he really in the right job if he suffered " panick attacks, stess and palpitations " This country has lost the plot.
tooquicktostop
Not take a job which requires him to remove his turban? Cant see me winning the battle of discrimination but then as I said the Police actively encourage ethnic recruiting, in fact they are very short of ethnic recruits, the POLICE should be ready to work a solution around this problem, in fact several forces already have

There is no right and wrong. Only individual's perception and opinion. You have your right to yours as I do to mine. What is considered "right" in the world is only the majority's opinion. Rules are rules and should apply to everone. Personally I think that if you can't do every aspect of a job and comply with all of the rules, for whatever reason, then you shouldn't be doing that job. L33
Sorry but its getting to a point where its a shame to be british. Getting walked all over by people whos distant generations had nothing to do with what our families fought for many years ago. We should of closed our doors and said go home before there was any need to give compensation for turbans, need to have equality rules and religious exemptions, and even where i come from in yeovil a polish supermarket with english not welcome on the window!!! And i swear thats the truth. They come here and tell us how to run our country...
