Matt H
Bit of background. Skip past as neccessary! Well the re-tune has screwed me over! I have a rubbish Daewoo freeview box that I inherited a very very long time ago. I don't watch much tv so its slow, rubbishness wasn't so much of an issue. Nor was the fact that some of the remote buttons didn't work. I got by though because I didn't need them.. until last night, when I decided I would re-tune the box! And.. I needed to press the green 'yes' button, which doesn't work! So I was stuck with missing chanels. The only answer was to throw the Daewoo in the bin and look for a new one today. Question: Any recommendations for a freeview box? Don't want to spend much, £50 max say. But it has to be better than the Daewoo, and the remote has to work! stevie_b
Sony VTX D800U. I've got one, they're not brand new but they're good and easy to use. £99 new but loads on ebay for £35 ish (not sure of final price they go for, I'd be surprised if it was above £50). http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=Sony+VTX-D800U&_sacat=See-All-Categories

RedM
Sony VTX D800u. So good that I've got two spares in case they go out of production and ours breaks. Now bear in mind how tight I am and that's high praise indeed.

Have to wait till home time though as ebay is blocked at work http://www.dabs.com/products/best-value-tu250dtr-250gb-pvr-631R.html Seems a bargain for a PVR. That seemed to good to be true when I was reading it. I think it might be though after reading some of the comments: "The Remote was covered in grease and hair. Clearly a refurbished model that was sold as new and not even cleaned for use" eww Sony VTX D800u. So good that I've got two spares in case they go out of production and ours breaks. Now bear in mind how tight I am and that's high praise indeed. Must be good! Why not just get Sky+? Like I said I don't watch much t.v, maybe one program a week so Sky+ would be a total waste of money for me. I didn't even think about a recordable box until it was mentioned on this thread... If you have a ps3 use Play Tv. I do its great The internet connection at my house is rubbish. I'll revert to the good old ariel for now Ta
Thorin
The internet connection at my house is rubbish. I'll revert to the good old ariel for now Ta Play TV uses the good old aerial. It's just a freeview box that connects to the PS3 and uses its hard disc for the recording side of things, doesn't stream over the internet. It is supposed to be very good from all accounts. I purchased PlayTV from dixons.. https://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/product/753881 Really excited about tyring it out. Can't argue with what you get for £40. Hopefully it will work as well as said.
