NiceMotorInnit
Hi All, Does anyone know of a garage local to Egham, Surrey (authorised Toyota or not) who can do a GOOD service on my MKIV TT? My previous garage has changed owners and are now refusing to service grey imports (Octagon in Slough). My tyres are going to need changing shortly. Any recommendations on a good all round tyre for general use that's not too expensive? I just use the car for normal driving. Finally, I heard somewhere that some grey imports have restricted engines (I think 280BHP was mentioned). How can I tell if mine is restricted? Cheers, Phil. AJI
Can't help you with garages in that area but if your supra is an import then it will have the 280bhp engine as standard T-T (more like 290ish if you dyno'd it). The UK-spec engines have the 326bhp as standard. Try Dunlop Sp9000's for a good value hard compound tyre that is good in the wet. Also quite good in the dry but not as high grip as some of the medium/soft compund tyres like Pirrelli offer. But then the softer you go the quicker they wear away. Flipfinger
SP9000s on my car..........much better than the semi-perished Dunlop Formulas (Japanese only tyres) that were on there before. Would recommend them to anyone with a Supra.
tDR
My Mother dearest's BMW 330 Ci Sport runs on Dunlop SP9000 rubber (235/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear) and I can confirm they are a decent tyre - seemed very grippy to me although they don't half squeal when you're on the edge Great in the wet also. I take it your previous garage is a Toyota dealership? I thought Toyota were and international company and as such part of their policy was to service and car made by Toyota regardless of where it is an import of not. I thought they could charge you extortionate rate to do it but not refuse to touch the car. IHMO you are better off going to an independent who specialise jap performance cars, the MKIV is such a rare car very few main dealers have much first hand experience of the car. Andrew Dunk Shaw
Hi, Welcome to the club, Dont want upset anyone but i had the Dunlop SP9000's on my uk tt and were ok in the dry but didnt fill me with confidence in the wet, i recommend the GOODYEAR F1's which IMO are far superiour to the Dunlops, exellent in both dry and wet conditions and lasted the same sort of mileage as the Dunlops. What wheel size do you have 16", 17" or bigger 17" G/Years are about £100 a tyre from my supplier in the West Mids. Regards Andrew(dunk)Shaw Black uk mkiv tt
Terminator
I have put the New F1's on the front wheels, can't fault them wet or dry. Have to push hard to get the front to breakaway. Good price too.
Sharpie
Hi Phil and welcome to the BBS. I have used Bracknell Tyre & Battery for my last set of tyres who were great. I can not suggest a general tyre choice but, will use this place again. They are on 01344 411323 Longshot Lane, western Industrial estate, Bracknell Berks. They are just off Western road opposite Towry laws building. Hope this helps.
