Cyclists - Always Innocent?

What an absolute joke...never in a million years will it be passed though. The insurance industry, FOS, etc would never allow it. Not to mention the public would go crazy at the guaranteed big increase in insurance premiums due to all the extra money they would be paying out without argument. And the level of insurance fraud would increase even more than the rediculous amount it has already, crash on the pedal cycle and its guaranteed money!

I pay tax for my Supra, and for my Celica, but I can't drive them both at the same time so why should I pay twice? ;)

Probably because government needs our money to plug some holes :p There is only one reasonable solution to this - put road tax in fuel price - it's fair and simple, if rest of Europe can do that and is sucessfull, why not here?

Speaking as i find as a pedestrian, working in the City of London, a lot of cyclists dont stop at red lights, ride the wrong way up one ways, ride on pavements, lock their bikes up against anything bolted down,(why are'nt there more cycle parking rails) causing obstructions for pedestrians, and worst of all are the kamikasi ones who cycle down the inside of moving buses, begging to be crushed.

However there are a lot bad, unaware drivers too.

I wonder how many people die or are injured on bikes in Amsterdam? or are we just a bunch of blame/claim cultured idiots with no time for anyone anymore?

Maybe the roads are just to busy now for all of us to enjoy ....bring back the day when bikes were cool if they had a gearshift in the middle and cars were cool if they had a tape player.

Maybe you shouldn't have to pay for both? Maybe there should be a different tax bracket for owners of two or more cars.

Or maybe they should just base it on non-human greenhouse gas emissions, just as they do currently ;)

The different tax brackets are based on CO2 output and engine size by and large - some cars even have zero tax (group A tax band)... yet my bicycle outputs no additional CO2 over what I produce and has zero engine size.

You'll be asking to tax pedestrians next!

I find that a lot of people that want bicycles taxed do not ride them frequently, if ever.

If I had to tax my bike, I would probably drive to work to keep costs down (and enjoy being in the warm).
