free website and domain name hosting

I think you'll struggle to get your own domain for free unless a kind web hosting company is willing to do you a special deal (i.e. mates' rates).

Maybe the ISPs still offer a bit of web space for free. The web address might not be short and snappy (i.e. something like http://www.virginmedia.com/personal/blackie/ instead of http://www.blackie.com) but it would be free (well, included in what you pay your ISP).

Just as Stevie mentioned, no such thing as free domain hosting, though some web hosting companies

may do it for free but in return want free advertising on the page.

Normally web hosting a domain costs around £10 a year, somethings even cheaper if the domain might not be used as much.

£10/year? That sounds pretty good. Do you know what hosting company offers that?

Thats how much it cost me to setup a domain 2 years ago while I was setting a company up through companies house.

Infact I think it was £12 for the 2 year period.

If you type in the web address you want normally you get a web hosting company come up.

Nice. I wish I knew about that a couple of weeks ago. I bought a domain name (for about £3/year ish) through 1&1 for a potential future project, but I don't *think* they give you any hosting at all without paying extra for it.

£2.99/£9.99 per year is just for the domain name registration, hosting is extra.

That's what I first thought. I was about to reply to you to that effect, but looking at 123's website it seems they actually allow you to put up a 1-pager: http://www.123-reg.co.uk/instantsite/starter.shtml. With very low traffic limits no doubt, but still bloomin' good for a personal website. :)

123reg host the domain for those prices but not the website. I believe they allow you to put a custom holding page for the domain but it won't be something you can use as a one page site as the size will be limited.

They also provide web hosting, I can't remember their prices but they're reasonable. I can recommend them for service as they host all my domains.
