Scooter Posted September 29, 2009 Share Posted September 29, 2009 I've dropped the subframe a way but cannot seem to lift the engine? I'm being very careful and possibly not being 'man' enough but I want to check want should be undone to allow the engine/mounts to lift off the subframe? I have undone the bottom 2 engine mounts bolts I have undone the passenger side mount top nut (changing this one) Loosened the gearbox mount bolts slightly Undone the exhaust at the end of the second cat I have a jack/support under the subframe cross member I have an engine crane attached to the 2 engine hooks. Are the mounts and their bolt threads just jammed in a bit? getting a bit miffed now (its been a long day!) so any help really appreciated. Dude I think i may give it a little help from below too with a carefully placed jack.....first time nerves Bignum...I really wanted to do this I just can't seem to get access to the x4 14mm mount bolts, or at least not access with anything that gives me enough leverage to crack them (engine, subframe and inner wings are hampering me.......maybe if I had a fine 72 tooth ratchet? I gave up on the above method........ tackled it again yesterday after reading in the repair manual that only the power steering reservoir needed to be moved out of the way (bent into the space left by removing the battery) in order to remove the oil filter housing. The oil filter housing being the thing that stops you removing the engine mount bracket. So by 'just' (its a pita to remove the water pipes and wiggle the whole assembly out) removing this you can get access to, undo the bolt that hold the mount to the bracket, undo (you will need multiply extensions and lots of patience and a second pair of hands wil certainly help) the x4 bolts to remove the bracket (the engine must be supported - I had an engine hoist on the right rear engine hook). You can then lower the new mount back in and locate it correctly, pop the bracket donw on top and then put the 17mm top nut on a couple of turns only, realign the bracket holes to the block (may need to be lifted with the hoist). Get these all torqued up and then you can gentle release the engine supports and tighten the top and bottom bolts of the mount. I hate this bit* but refitting is the revervse of removal! Happy to advise anyone who wants to take this on but its a PITA and not a simple job................but at least for me it is now done Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Scooter Posted October 11, 2009 Author Share Posted October 11, 2009 ta it all sounds so easy reading it back but my forearms, stomach and neck ache form the constant contortions and getting in/out from underneath! It took basically took all day! but i'm a bit slow because I think/prepare carefully......and also when you take on these one off jobs you soon realise there is a tool that would be bloody handy that i just don't have.......in this instance it was one of those flexible trigger operated hose clip squeezers..........I must have spent over half and hour trying to to get the rear most water pipe and its clip back on the oil filter housing.......air (& knuckles) was blue Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
