Jellybean
Who is everybody with , One direct normally insure me under a Toyota Camry through Hibernian and say they have it written down as a Toyota Supra on the file But I am a bit worried if anything did happen
jim
I'd be worried too Clo, you might as well have no insurance if that's the case, as if the worst should ever happen and you need your insurance they'll find any way to wriggle out of paying up. Can you get confirmation from them in writing? I'm with Endsleigh (came up cheapest on confused.com 2 years running, £250 a year's not too bad at all!) but Endsleigh are a UK company, and I imagine that it has to be an Irish company that covers you? Jellybean
Tried 90% of companies and they all refuse to quote , they are only interested if you have something less than 1600cc XSDirect want 1200 euro and a 4000 euro excess, whats the point of being insured fully comprehensive might as well just go third party . Its a cartell over here
supramkivcork
My father is the registered owner of the supra that I drive fortunately his policy with Axa has an open drive for drivers aged 25-70 with a full licence. They dont even have to have to have their own policy to drive the supra.

Guest tboy42
i forgot to tell you thats it is 50euro per month for around 600milesper month. If i dont drive the supra at all ils only 9.90 euro and of course if i do around 300 miles it will be 25euro. did you have this system in uk " pay as you drive"? I think its cool if you dont do too much miles during the year.

Not in Ireland , it is all based on an estimate. you get a discount if you say you do between 1000KM and 8000KM but since they dont know your current mileage they cannot prove you have gone over 8000KM How do they track your mileage or have the resources to do it, very time intensive? They can tell alot from the GPS box, I would be a bit wary But for the hugh reduction in price, it is an option to consider
Guest tboy42
yes i see what you mean but i dont care about the gps box, i use to drive fast sometime very fast... and its not a problem for me. The contract with the insurance is clear: she cant give informantion on how i run to police or other. This box is just her for calculate my miles per month and nothing else. Jellybean
They have the GPS in Ireland but the insurance company use it to track everything. Location, speed, milleage you name it Definetly not for me, like having a police man sitting beside me pre-writting a ticket

jim
lol, that's a nightmare mate. Do you do many miles in it Clo, do you have the option of asking for classic insurance (usually age of car, miles done, kept garaged and whether you have access to another car as a daily driver determines this). It used to be the same up here, you were limited to local brokers and companies only and basically they named an extortionate price and you had no option but to bend over and take it. You'd see ad's on tele for insurance companies and at the end it'd say in small print 'excludes NI'. Regulations changed within the past few years though, and mainland insurers are offering insurance for NI drivers now which has meant that everyone has to be competitive now to get the business, meaning costs have come way down.
