Still confused with the boost controller. Is a manual one enough or should i get electronic? Any help appreciated, especially if someone can help fit the boost controller Cheers
jon5698
I would go electronic mate, manual ones are a bit crude also get a boost gauge if you don't already have one
hp006
How does this controller look to people http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-SUPRA-MR2-ELECTRONIC-BOOST-CONTROLLER-VALVE-KIT_W0QQitemZ220397977984QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3350be4180&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 I have got : ngk spark plugs, fmic, induction kit behind the bumper, uprated fuel pump, decat, anything else needed? Fcd?? Can anyone help me also, there appears to be some sort of air inlet on top of the engine? Is this correct. It is a Uk tt fitted into a j-spec so dont have a bonnet scoop. Still no advice on where to fit the boost controller?? Edited October 2, 2009 by hp006 (see edit history)
SimonT
I would have a look here mate for a decent boost controller: http://www.garagewhifbitz.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=2252&Itemid=53 With regards to the FCD, yes most definitley get one as you will hit fuel cut with no cats and it will try and propell you through the windscreen!!! Do you have a restrictor ring on one of the decats?? Not too sure on the inlet part you are talking about but i have J spec so i wouldnt know, but by what your describing it sounds like you may be right with it just missing the UK scoop! hp006
No restrictor ring fitted, from what i read its not needed on the uk spec. Even with full decat at the moment im only making 0.95ish boost, so boost controller defo needed.

BOB B
I have the Greddy profec boost controller fitted and I believe quite a few people use them. I did get the garage to fit this though cos I didn't want anything to go wrong. Its a bit of a PITA to set up but once done "wow" what a differance, it has a low and a high boost setting, and one thing I realy find usefull is it gives you a constant reading of the boost used all the time and you can find out peak boost used too. Mines a UK set up also. Bob.
pistonbroke
If you get an AEM tru boost (doubles as a 52mm boost gauge), I have one fitted and will happily take pics of where everything is plumbed into.
Nic
Still confused with the boost controller. Is a manual one enough or should i get electronic? A Manual or electronic boost controller will both be able to raise the boost for you, it really depends what you want and what your budget is. A manual BC is cheaper and once set can be forgotten about, these can be mounted either in the engine bay or plumbed through to the dash. If buying a manual boost controller go for a ball and spring type one. An electronic boost controller usually includes an LCD showing the boost reading, so doubles up as boost gauge, they also usually include a peak warning light/alarm. Some electronic boost controllers allow you to store 2 or more boost settings, which you can switch between whilst driving. More expensive electronic boost controllers include other features such as gain, which helps minimise lag. They can also allow you to map the boost settings against speed, rpms, throttle position, etc. so you can maximise boost through all gears. In terms of EBC's I'd recommend any of the Blitz range and the HKS EVC VI.
