michael
What are your thoughts on the whole Polanski situation then? Is it right that the US are trying to get him back to stand trial? Is it OK to forget what he did because it's been a while and the victim has been paid out and said charges can be dropped? Should he be treated like any other paedophile or does he deserve the defence he's getting from world leaders and stars? Does any of it really matter? Who is Polanski? Should he share a cell with Manson? Am I bored? Yes I am. http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2009/sep/28/roman-polanski http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8277886.stm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Polanski

Thorin
With the exception of The Pianist, all his other films are, lets be honest, crap. So yes, lock him up, lock him up with the weevils!
Ewen
Rosemarys Baby was good, as was Repulsion, Frantic, Tess, The Pianist and especially Chinatown. What he did was wrong, and he ran away. So, good director, bad man. Let him finish The Ghost then bang him up for what good it will do anyone.
Matt H
I don't know a lot about the case, but it seems like he has been convicted of something and never been locked up for it... back to the US then. He's had a good innings, become an oscar winner etc etc, obviously jumping ship did him good. Now time to get shipped back off to the US. I'm sure with the current climate he won't be in there for long.
hogmaw
With the exception of The Pianist, all his other films are, lets be honest, crap. Crap? CRAP? WTF you on about. In your opinion as a lay person perhaps, but I'd trust the opinions of millions of other film goers, critics and professionals within the industry more. Watch "Knife in the Water" and "Cul de Sac", then think again.

The cast and crew were billeted all over the village where I lived. Cant remember Polanski much, but I remember it all being rather magical. He came back a few years later and filmed some scenes for Macbeth on the Island too.

Charlotte
I'm not sure really. Seems a bit bizarre to bring it all up again but he did the crime...etc. I feel sorry for him with the Manson stuff so maybe I'd let him off.

There's a whole new side to the justice system opening up right there!!! "Well... yeah I did nick it... but my mum's just broken her ankle so...." "OK we'll let you off with a caution then." He was clearly not of sound mind when he slept with that 13yr old.

michael
So in essence what we are saying here is that it's fine to be a paedophile that drugs young people before playing "every hole is a goal" as long as you make decent films? Gary Glitter did a few catchy tunes so is he forgiven now?

michael
First one to mention Hitler wins a hamper. I like your style, you've just awarded yourself a hamper. Would Polanski have achieved anything without the additional media attention he received thanks to Manson and his team? Did he set the whole thing up? He was cheating on her anyway... was this his way out of a bad relationship? I don't trust him.
