hybrid turbos

We have moved on Terry - Ali was up for creating a conflict over nothing and basically crashed and burned...debris already cleared!

John - not sure that anyone has noted that the infamous scoop actually works or makes a difference, I wasn't even aware that they actually had it over there!

rev.3 onwards MR2 Turbo has the CT20B, which is a smaller turbo than the CT26A fitted to the earlier cars. The letters are important as that's the revision of those Turbos. Toyota ran higher boost on the later cars as well.. the CT20B was the better match for the 3S-GTE engine like this with the later cars making up to ~ 270bhp standard.

"infamous", how so?

I remember reading in one of the 'development' docs that during stress testing the Toyota engineers found that a couple of cylinders were getting hotter than the rest, so they added the scoop to equalise things.

It was only fitted on UK/US models because of the higher power they were making and the larger temp variations (Texas and southern Europe could get pretty hot sometimes, and mr "T" doesn't like warranty claims)

yeah, dude is right actually, I've just remembered, it's only the Eurospec that had the scoop, because it was meant to make more power than US-spec (326 vs 320 or thereabouts) due to the availability of higher octane fuel

It was also added due to the exceptionally high speeds the Germans can get up to on the autobahns. They wouldnt expect any other country to have quite the same top speeds.

OK cool but you have seriously changed Paul, and not for the better. I was trying to give you the benefit of our experience, but sounds like you arent interested anymore.

The story on the scoop goes that it was used on European cars to cool certain runners as TMC assumed that the euro cars would spend more time doing hard M-Way/Autobarn pulls. I would be surprised if it didnt work as TMC rarely seem to have got many things wrong on our cars, but then again, they never intended people to run the boost we try too.

Yes Paul, im rather offended and suprised at how you assumed my TECHNICAL statement was in order to cause any conflict? pls, give me any insight into how you came to this conclusion? I would hate to turn TECHNICAL threads into chiter chatter ... :)

Have fun, :violin:

Correct!

Thank you for trying to share the benefit of your experience Terry and Usmann - when it is good intentioned, without hint of patronisation and actually based on a genuine desire to afford information - then it will be very welcome!

In the meantime we seem to be very 'cleverly' straying once again off the topic of hybrids...

Lets see what happens on Sunday with the results...

Really dont want to get involved in another hybrid war, but yes i've had the miami-gt hybrids in for a few weeks now.

Running at 1.1 bar, alongside a walbro FCD etc etc. All i can say is they are everything I wanted.

Quick spool, and great power all the way to xxx mph.

Hard to describe but they feel very solid compared to my old j-spec units, and most importantly force a huge grin on my face!

As mentioned, will be down on sunday for the rolling road day. Personally more interested in how the AFR's are looking rather then power at the moment.

Well there is no RR at the MiamiGT place, is there?

Do I need a cryptic handshake for someone to say where the location is then?

LOL!

I think the RR is in surrey, I'll just be heading to the workshop and following the crowd form there. (Workshop in basingstoke)
