First startup in months - Tons of smoke **Video**

My MKIII, not a UK 3.0 7M

First time in months of starting and this;

apeIR0T8FUE

I had noticed it being smokey before but not anywhere near like this (think it was startup and revving in stationary before and I havent noticed it on boost), so is there any chance of narrowing down the cause at all just by this vid? I know turbo seals, perhaps low on compression or valve stems could be causes but I wondered if the way it smokes could lean towards one area over another?

Is it manual? ;) Sounds alright, maybe its turbo? As per above check your oil and water, may be the dreaded 7M head gasket

not a 7M as in first post ;)

it's 1G 2.0 TT ;) manual too yep :)

will check water today, pretty sure thats ok though, and I would a compression test but the plugs feel really bad to untighten, all of them seem like they're cross threaded :(

I'm going to do a compression test this week, any advice on removing plugs that are stupidly tight and seem cross threaded? :(

You might have to just try them Tom and see if they shear off. If they do then the way I got them out of my ex's fiesta was to use a torx head and literally hammer a new thread with the torx bit into the existing plug thread and twist them out very slowly ensuring ceramic doesn't drop into the bores

Hope it all works out for you Tom....thats a cool car

  • 3 weeks later...

Vid's down for the mo as a new one is going up, smoke has pretty much all cleared after a little run and I did a compression test too with good results (plugs all came out with no problem once engine was warm),

Compression results were between 170-178 across the board :) so I think it's my turbo seals that have gone, of course it could still be valve stems but i'll find another set of turbos and see first :)
