tbourner
I don't have any tats myself, only because of needle-phobia, but I don't understand people saying "What will it look like when you're old a wrinkly" and stuff like that, there are plenty of people with tattos all over them so it will be 'normal' to have tattoos when you're older - my grandad-in-law has tats on his arms and it doesn't look weird or make him look like a git or anything - if you want them now then have them now, it's the memory of WHY you have them that will keep them special for you. Also, the reactions you get will only last until you start talking, as you said people judge too quickly. If you ever end up in court or facing potential customers or in a job interview your personality will come through and they'll probably end up asking about your tattoos, and then you can explain that it wasn't a gang membership or anything. People who make comments as you walk past deserve a slap anyway!

L33
Guns! Lol. My little brother keeps saying that about his scrawny arms. He is only 16 and thinks he is a gangster. Somerset and gangster dont mix. So annoying! Any way... Some good posts and the whole what about when you get older, i think there comes a age where your top should be sown onto your back so cant go around topless at 80! Lol. Saying that there is a bloke my way that does and is covered head to toe in tats looks crazy but not out of place for the way tats are now? martin1982
I've got a fairly big flaming Ace of Spades on the side of my neck. Never seemed to be brought up at Job interviews and I had it before I went for the interview for the job I'm doing at the moment for the council. My old job in immigration didnt seem to mind either. A lot of companies ake the point of view that it's one thing to already have it before you start but some frown upon getting it done once you're in employment with them. Immigration Officer was a prime example, as I'd got the tat before I started it wasn't too much of an issue, but I'd never been able to get it done once I'd started working there. L33
I love star tattoos! Thats why i have stars inbetween my tribal as shading. My tattoos dont really have meaning to me either. Thats why i have very few picture tattoos, and have gone for tribal as it dont really mean any thing its just art. All started when i used to watch the blade films and seen his tribal tats. Lush! Just always liked the look of them. I look for inspiration for tattoo designs on http://www.bmezine.com a few on there are a bit extreme tho! You've never thought of it as body art? A good tattooist should be an artist. You're trusting them with your blank canvas to draw something - they should know things like perspective and shading...just like artists do. What I meant was I just never thought of it as artistic in style or purpose. All I thought of it was a logo or what have you. E.g. a barbed wire or celtic symbol or football club logo etc.
AndrewOW
michael said: Buy a marker pen and draw them on yourself, see what reaction it gets. That actually isn't such a bad idea really. If you get someone to do it properly for you, and then go out on the town one saturday night, then see how it's reacted to. Don't dismiss it out of hand that easily, but any tattoos on that part of your body is a big risk, as it could end you up in hospital if someone takes a disliking to you from a first impression. My ex and her brother have quite a few tattoos, and both of them wouldn't be seen unless they wanted them to be, and he's got nasty ones on his arms, TBH. martin1982
All mine are symbolic of my tastes in music, its like a way of expressing my interests really, but each person has different reasons. I got my Metallica one cos they're my favourite band and the liked the slogan Birth, School, METALLICA, Death! Some of the girls I know have tattoos on them cos they saw a picture and liked it so much they wanted it interpreted into a tattoo. Personally i've never understood the appeal of having a tattoo of a living person on you (wife or child etc) but then I guess some people would wonder why I've got a picture of a playing card on my neck lol

TLicense
I've always thought it takes a special kind of person to wake up in the morning and say "what shall I do today, oh yeah I know, I'll tatoo my face". I used to work with a guy who had a shaved head and a tatoo of a cross-hair on both his forhead and the back of his head. Never knew his real name as everyone just simply called him "Target". I think that's the thing about facial tatoo's. You suddenly become "the person with a tatoo on their face" as there is no hiding it.

martin1982
Sorry I thought you meant Ace of Death as in having death within the actual "Spade" lol Yeah i'd had a chat with a mate before getting it abouts it's different meanings so just decided "hmm death + the title of a motorhead song = cliched heavy metal tattoos away!" supra_aero
Fair play. I always find a deck of playing cards kinda mysterious and mystical. A lot of meaning into the various picture cards, which people are not aware of. Also the random nature of a shuffled deck intrigues me for some reason. Not to mention the statistical probabilities when playing a game of cards. I'd probably get a tattoo of a card as well if I was to get a tattoo.
