N/A jap spec,front shocks..............

I believe the front shock is kippered on my Supra. When going over 'pot'holes or uneven road, the ride can be very'thumpy' especially on the o/s front. Is this a common fault on the MKiv? I've heard shocks last around 60K,and mine is on 87k(miles)

How difficult are these to change as i have had a quick look, and have seen that the shock goes between a 'V' shaped componant, can't quite see how you would get it out.

Also how much would a pair of shocks cost? Al.

Not too bad to change , the long bolt thro' the upper A arm needs to be removed to enable the strut to come out.

Then its just a matter of undoing top and bottom mounts.

Yes mate as above,in one of my past services before i owned the car, it says o/s/front shock leaking.I believe the shocks are original,so this probably makes sense that they are 'kippered'

Thanks for the other info Matt.

Can anyone give me a rough price of the shocks??? Al.

My understanding is that as they are gas filled you can't tell if they've leaked without taking them off and testing them. I may be wrong, but......

Are they yellow? If so they are the sports pack Bilstiens, I think thay are difficult to get hold of and are about £150 each. Mine were absolutly knackered on a '93 showing 70K miles.

Could be time to have a look at a full kit :)

The standard shocks are black, the yellow ones were an option. One sympton I noticed was going round fast corners - like Mway slip roads - the inside front felt really loose when it hit bumps.

There are also a few cases of loose bolts on the front sub-frame. This causes a lot of noises, increased road noise, crashing and banging over rough surfaces and creaking at parking speeds. It probably will be your shocks, but get this checked out as well.

Have a look at the thread below, and also the link on the first message.
