nevins
so are you going to have a go at a night flight
SupraStar 3000
No chance. I've tried it before and found it very difficult. depth perception and situation awareness is so badly effected by the distracting lights and poor visibility I doubt I could hold a hover let alone fly. nevins
lol, its bad enough using a drift car t night yet alone a flying model
SupraStar 3000
Had a funny thing happen yesterday Was just flying the helicopter in the yard to a railway station (nearest open area to me) and as they gates were locked i figured I wouldn't be disturbed. The pitch curve and throttle response is extremely severe on this model until the rotor head speeds up so initially I use the trim bar to get the rotor head moving until momentum builds up. During this stage I heard a ping from my handset and felt the trim button disappear into the transmitter box. Not ideal as thats the only way to stop the helicopter or wait 35minutes for the batteries to drain. Just as I was scratching my head two huge low loader lorries turned into the railway yard carrying steam engines. I looked a right nob head trying to drag the model out the way by its tail with the rotors turning inches from my arm whilst these two burly truckers looked at me in disgust. LOL
nevins
Not something you want to happen mate lol, Atleast the throttle was not stuck full

LOL You were lucky moving it with the blades spinning, Can't you set a throttle hold to your trainer button/ other spare switch? I put my t rex in the other day, Was 12ft up and went to flick my timer switch, but flicked the flight mode switch instead! Putting negative 6 pitch in with no time to correct, it just hit the deck. Something so simple and it caused my first ever crash, Done the boom, landing skids and stripped the gears in the tail servo.
SupraStar 3000
Bad luck mate. Ouch! and thats why I've disabled mixes, throttle cut, 3D mode and all other features on my handset. I've done exactly the same with a scale A109. Went to retract the landing gear and hit the wrong switch sending the model crashing to the ground. I've also put rubber pipe on the switches I need so I can feel where my thumbs is without looking down.
Dave
you should have fitted it with guns then you can get all the yobs

Aero-M
Lovely looking scale that Ed, Seems to have a very high head speed though? My trex is like that, it just won't fly nice unless the head speed is really high The turbine bug has got me, I was very privelaged to be given the chance to fly a falcon 120 with a wren 60 turbine on friday. It was amazing, Im so tempted to sell everything I have to buy one.
SupraStar 3000
your right mate. The head speed is stupidly high but the scale body is heavy, so guess its necessary. The guy that helped set this up said its not worth messing around with as throttle range is nice with plenty of power left to play with. My next buy is a scale 5 bladed rotor head so I guess that will effect the head speed somewhat. I'd love a turbine but wouldn't know where to start maintaining and preparing for flight. How did the falcon fly? I imagine the power from those turbine is pretty impressive. To be honest, I extremely happy with this electric conversion. Sure, the flight duration is very short, the weight of the batteries is a pain, but smokeless, fuelless flying without a field pack is such a pleasure. I hate carrying around a pump, car battery, fuel, glow plug and starter motor with my fuel heli. The ability to throw this model in my car with just the handset and fly is a huge benefit. It flew really well the speed was like nothing else im used to, But it can be flown quite steady, as for maintenance all they really need is the bearings replacing every 500-100 flights depending on the turbine. It's just the noise they make is incredible just like the real thing. 180mph is interesting to keep your eye on, you need to be a couple of seconds ahead of it the whole time. Im with you on the benefit of electric helis, All I tend to take out with me now is either my trex 500 or 600 electrics. The 500 is especially handy as it's all in a metal case so I just put it in the van in the morning and get to fly it most days whenever I pass somewhere appropriate to fly it. SupraStar 3000
Tell you what! Those micro/mini class helicopters are cute and easy to maintain but so unpredictable in strong wind. Just ditched my 450 into the ground after a sudden gust flipped it onto its back. Ouch!! Not much salvageable

Usually quite stable, but just plummeted. Its wrecked!

Aero-M
tbh I hated my t rex 450, as you say they are very good, just not in wind. The t rex 500 is in a different league, I would say it fly's as well as my raptor 50. Today I fitted it with a gy401 and 9254 full size servo, it had the align gyro and ds520 micro tail servo before, The difference is amazing it's rock solid on the tail now. SupraStar 3000
You seem very knowledgeable on helicopters mate. Any idea what the best was of canceling vibration is? Already tried loosening blade grips and balancing, but i'm getting some strong vibration still that can't be good for the gyro. And also, any idea on a good lipo alarm from my Raptor.
