Frank Bullitt
Category D: A damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road. HTH
DanBEXsupra
It basically means that to repair the car to its previous state, it would cost more than 60% of the pre-accident value of the car, thus making it un-economical to repair on a business level. It is the lowest catergory of the bunch, and with second hand parts. you could probably get it repaired and roadworthy for a lot less than previous estimated by the insurance company as the use new and approved parts with warranty from the suitable manufacturer. gordy07
Another supra is it?
Frank Bullitt
Ah ok so not something i need to run from then?? Depends if it has been repaired properly. An independent inspection might be advisable & being a CAT D write off will affect resale price.
tooquicktostop
Buying is OK if you get it cheap, very cheap, selling it will make it a nightmare, I have owned a couple of CAT D's and you an forget PX with a trader thats for sure
Aero-M
Category A Insurance Write Off - the vehicle must scrapped and no parts or components can be sold other than for scrap. Amounts vary but the scrap value rarely covers the cost of recovery and delivery to a scrap yard. Category B Insurance Write Off - the vehicle must not be used again but non- structural and roadworthy parts and components may be recovered for use in other vehicles. Care must be taken to ensure that they are not critical components with important safety functions. Category C Insurance Write Off - the vehicle is repairable but the parts and labour would exceed the value of the car. This is a tricky situation as there are plenty of amateur and professional mechanics who could use second hand parts to repair these vehicles at much lower prices than the list costs for parts and labour. Category D Insurance Write Off - the vehicle is economically repairable but other factors are involved that cause the insurer to declare the vehicle a write off. Perhaps the replacement car hire is too costly or it will take too long for a specialist part to be delivered. Category X Insurance Write Off - the vehicle is easily repairable and may even be still roadworthy. Unrecorded Insurance Write Off - the vehicle damage was not reported to the insurer or the driver was uninsured. The most common example is drivers who only have third party insurance but have had an accident that was their fault (usually not involving anyone else). Havard
You'll really struggle to sell it. Personally I would walk away....
